Avril is the mother, called The Moms by her kids. She is in charge of academics at the academy, a grammar freak, and in a possibly inappropriate relationship with her half brother, Charles, who is now the director of ETA. She is Québécois.
Orin is the oldest son, once a nationally ranked youth tennis player, but changed to American football punter in college, partially in pursuit of Joelle VanDyne: a baton twirler for football games. Orin is now a professional punter, and though smart, not as smart as he thinks.
Joelle went on to star in some of James' films. She now has a radio show, and a drug habit that has driven her to a dark place. She also wears a veil to hide a disfigurement of some sort.
Mario is the second son of James(?) and Avril. His body is not made for tennis, but he is a genius behind the camera, so he films matches for ETA. He's a sensitive soul, who loves Joelle's radio show.
Hal is the youngest son, and a nationally ranked youth tennis player. He has memorized at least some of the OED, so his vocabulary is quite large. He has a host of friends that provide comic relief and some insight. Hal also has a marijuana habit. He has some sort of speech impediment- the cause of which has not been revealed. He is highly intelligent, but unsure about his future at seventeen.
There is also Don Gately, a recovering drug addict and former thief, who lives down the hill from ETA in Ennet House- a home for addicts. So far, he is a murky character, but seems to be genuine in his resolve to be clean.
So far, I love all these characters for their quirks. They're not all likeable as people, but that's ok. I'm very much looking forward to their stories unfolding and the connections.
I think Tracy has covered that nicely lol
