Cassie | 4 comments I'm looking for books that have a setting in the early 1900s, preferably 1900-1915. I would like it to take place in a tropical setting and give some insight into the everyday life and social aspects of this time period. Things like, what they wore and how they got dressed. Maybe a bit of romance.

Katalin | 1 comments W. Somerset Maugham novels and especially his short stories. I enjoyed those the most.

not sure how early you would prefer, but lily king's Euphoria came to mind. it's set in the early 1930s in new guinea.

the guardian had a good review: https://www.theguardian.com/books/201...

have you read any ken follett? Fall of Giants begins in 1911. it's pretty sweeping... and is the first in a 3-book epic series. (totally not tropical, though. heh!)

Sasha (fearal) | 57 comments Water Music is set in the late 1800s and deals with some exploration in Africa (I believe? or another tropical region). It's a bit crazy!
