Perri | -43 comments Picked up the book yesterday and just started, First, I didn't know it was a YA book. I've no problem at all with that, just surprised. There are a lot of YA books I love-The Fault in Our Stars anyone?
Second, I love the cover. Good way to start
Third, did you know this will be a movie release in May?!

message 2: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I loved it! If you like the cover, you'll love the insides. There are plenty of illustrations! Piece of trivia: they're all drawn by the author's husband.

Her next book is great too!

I'll check in from time to time to see how you guys liked it

message 3: by Amy (new)

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 636 comments Bahhh! I didn't get to a store to buy it yet. Maybe I'll have to Amazon it after all.

message 4: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) | 623 comments Oooh I hope mine comes from the library soon! I made a new years resolution a few years back to stop buying books haha. I did love TFIOS too... and I didn't know this was becoming a movie either!

message 5: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments I'll hold off on starting until you all have copies

message 6: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis Yay! You guys will be reading this one soon!
I will be watching and can't wait to see what you think.

message 7: by Amy (new)

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 636 comments When do you think the rest can start? I can probably get my copy later today at Coles?!

message 8: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Couldn't resist starting a bit. I wonder why all her stuff has to be white. Like is she allergic to color? Interesting contrast with the colorful cover. The Bundt cake series made me laugh.

I remember seeing the Bubble Boy movie with John Travolta. I wonder if there are no new ways to treat people with this problem?

message 9: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) | 623 comments mine came in! I will start tonight :)

message 10: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Woot Dana

Maybe the white is just symbolic of how sterile her life has become?

message 11: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) | 623 comments Must be, maybe so you can see if there is dirt? Would make me feel like I was in an asylum, lol! I like the short chapters and drawings so far

message 12: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis Yes, the format made it definitely easy to fly through.

message 13: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) The drawings are great! I love the lab reports.... so much fun!

message 14: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Anyone that's done .... (view spoiler)

message 15: by Amy (new)

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 636 comments Just got to purchase it today and started it. I'd have to say that it's because of her sterile life too, Perri. Very hospital and quarantined visual. Liking it so far...was surprised by the drawings and things.

message 16: by Amy (new)

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 636 comments Also, I love the cover too! I refused to buy the movie cover option. Ever actually. But especially not when the original artwork is beautiful. :-))

message 17: by Amy (new)

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 636 comments So I know this is going to sound melodramatic, but I'm about 70% done and am quite sure I don't want to know the end of this book. I'm scared I won't be able to get up off the floor from drowning in my tears. I feel sick to my stomach with anticipating devastation.
It might be that I haven't eaten yet today but I feel like it's this book. lol

message 18: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) | 623 comments i finished ! looking forward to discussing when you guys are ...

(view spoiler)

message 19: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments You guys are reading fast!

message 20: by Amy (new)

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 636 comments I loved it. The end. Lol

message 21: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis Perfectly said Amy!

message 22: by Amy (new)

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 636 comments I nodded to you in my review, Vicki. Truly. Thank you! :-)

message 23: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments I absolutely did not have a clue (view spoiler)

message 24: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Glad you liked it. I had read that story a couple weeks before I read the book. Glad you guys loved the book. Can't wait for her to write a new one.

After reading the book, what do you think of the blurb? IMHO I felt the blurb was completely inadequate and didn't draw me to the book. I wouldn't have read it but I was asked to do a buddy read.

Thoughts?

message 25: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments I went back and reread it. The part about her being allergic to the world caught my attention. I've never read anything like that and would be interested in that story line. The part about seeing Olly and predicting to falling in love is a bit cliche. Are you planning on seeing the movie?

message 26: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) | 623 comments It definitely wasn't the blurb that drew me into it, I think it was mainly my Goodreads' friends (like you guys) that rated it so highly. And between all the tough subjects, I love a good YA every once in a while! Even when the romance/relationships are so cheesy.

Obviously I felt bad for Maddy, but my emotions were more towards her mom. On one hand she was maddening, but then I felt so bad for her - how can you blame her really? Losing a husband/child is terrible, especially in one swoop. Poor woman!

message 27: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments That's funny, Dana I was just talking to my daughter who has a one year old about using a "safe word" and she said she was just never going to let her leave the house ha ha. That reminded me of how I kind or related to Rapunzel's witch jailer. Isn't there a song in Wicked-Stay With Me?

message 28: by Amy (new)

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 636 comments I didn't have a clue either, Perri! I have t been surprised by a twist like that since...since...Ill have to really think about this...

message 29: by Amy (new)

Amy (thenikitagirl) | 636 comments I'm sure many saw it coming like I have in other books that others didn't, but this one had me.
