Have you ever read the Beka Cooper series? I actually haven't! Should I add that one to the list?

I'm totally in! I've read all of her books multiple times! :D

Definitely. If you have read all her other books then you should read the Beka Cooper series. :)

I can't wait to start. Still almost 12 hours till the 9th for me!

Yup. Only a two hour difference. That should help since we should all be on about the same time. :)

Quick question, are we going to read the books in the order above or in chronological order?

I think the order above should be fine. it's mostly in chronologial order, but Beka Cooper can be read at at any time after Alanna's series.

those ones are really good, it's got a different format of writing than the others that I think you'll like. Plus Beka is awesome.

I've read all of her Tortall and Emelan series. :)

I need to read her Emelan series, I haven't been able to find them in my library...I guess this means a trip to chapters ^.^

I highly recommend them. They are actually my favorite of her two worlds. :)

Yes. Each book kind of focuses on one of the characters. :)

Yes. There are three series in that world. All following the same four mages but at different points in their lives. :)

Sure! I'll throw that on the end :) Sorry, didn't see your post before I posted. I don't remember liking those books as much but maybe we can buddy read those after Tortall! I don't think I ever made it all the way through and maybe I'll like them better as an adult. I was pretty obsessed with knights after Alanna and Kel, so those didn't do it for me back then lol

My gamer name even has "Lady Knight" in it still to this day :)

The two worlds are a close tie for me but I like the Emelan world just a bit more now that I'm older. :)

Only two more minutes to midnight for me. I think I'll try to start right at midnight since I just finished my other book an hour ago. :)

So I finished Alanna: The First Adventure last week, which actually prompted this re-read marathon, so I'll finish reading something else while you guys start this and I'll pick up In the Hand of the Goddess starting Monday!

Took me forever to find my copy of Alanna and I still had to use my collector's copy. :(

I'll have to hunt for my other copy in the morning if I don't finish it by tonight.

I just got that old book smell and I'm sooooooo happy. It's like a drug to me. :P

I'll be starting and finishing the first two Alanna books today, so I'll catch up to you soon ^.^

Luckily I hadn't put my Tamora Pierce books away yet (renovating) so I didn't have to dig.

Old books smell is amazing, so nostalgic.

I'll have to dig mine back out! Packed up in boxes for a move. But the boxes are too heavy to carry so I need to get smaller boxes lol.

The cool part of this is that we don't have to read the same book at the same time to be able to discuss them since we've read them all multiple times. It'll be interesting what we do and don't remember though!

True, every time I read them I find some small detail that I missed or was foreshadowed in the very beginning. Like Alanna's brother, Thom was it? she knew he would be changed when they separated for the first time, but looking back at it now none of us really knew how much he would change.

Right?? Reading the first one again I found myself anticipating the big events I remembered, like Duke Roger and the Black City and George, but being pleasantly surprised by all the little details that came between that I forgot

Duke Roger grinds my gears, I hate that guy and he just keeps coming back! definitely one of my most hated villains of all time.

I love reading about Jon ad the guys trying to pick a name for Faithful, all the names are from the Beka Cooper's series and are their cats names.

Yeah I just noticed it this time around. But there are lots of little things like that.

Finished the first two Alanna books today, In the Hand of the Goddess is my favorite out the the two. I posted reviews so check them out when you have time.

I posted a comment on the first review and realized our discussion is here so here it is again lol:

It STILL drives me crazy even knowing why no one suspects Roger because (keeping it generic so as not to reveal spoilers) not EVERYONE was "kept in the dark," but apparently those were the only people at the palace during hat time who could think for themselves...not Gary, Raoul, any of the other pages except Alanna. I mean, he's charming, but is he really THAT charming that no one else has the common sense to make a simple connection??

You write really in-depth reviews! I usually don't have the attention span for that lol
