Jay Howard (jay_howard) 15 JUNE - THIS GROUP IS NOW COMPLETE

09 June 2014 Change to the rules - please read now
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

This is a ‘normal’ group ie exactly what we have been running – any published work accepted from any genre for review. This also means you won’t know what you’ll be asked to review. You should expect anything and everything. I expect professional reviews with no reference to ‘I don’t normally read this kind of thing’ as that’s not the point. What we’re looking for is reviews, and review ratings, based on the quality of the writing, whatever the genre.

Jayne Blue (jayneblue) I'd like to be added to Group 42. Is there any problem if I'm also in 41? The book I'd like to submit is The Consultant.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Thanks so much!

message 3: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Concurrent group membership is no problem if you have the time to do the reviews and there are no clashes :)

message 4: by Jayne (new)

Jayne Blue (jayneblue) Great. Summer vacation just started so it's perfect. Thank you. Looking forward to it!

message 5: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) In case you're wondering, Sam's name is there as I asked him to wait because clashes from previous membership meant he couldn't join G39. This is his book link:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

message 6: by Samuel (new)

Samuel | 127 comments Many thanks, Jay.

message 7: by Robin (new)

Robin Peacock (rubik101) | 145 comments I believe my book is more suited to 42. There is some swearing and the story is about a murdered prostitute so sex is mentioned although not in great detail. Still,'d rather be safe than sorry!
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
please put me here!

message 8: by C.C. (last edited Jun 09, 2014 04:17AM) (new)

C.C. Bradley (ccbradley) | 13 comments I'd like to be added to group 42. As in the case of Jayne, I'm also in another current group (group 39). I understand that I will need to meet the reviewing requirements/timelines for both groups and that's not a problem. I'm submitting the same book, if that's ok.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

message 9: by S.L. (new)

S.L. Shelton (wolfewriter) | 50 comments Well! What a fast moving set of groups! I Love it. May I also be added to 42? With a different book than I have listed in 39. Unexpected Gaines
Thank you!

message 10: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Hazell (rebecca_hazell) | 35 comments Hello all,

I'm joining Group 42 as well. Here's the link: Solomon's Bride and here's the link to my page: Rebecca Hazell. Just so everyone knows, I will either provide a copy of the first novel in this trilogy or a synopsis.

message 11: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Hazell (rebecca_hazell) | 35 comments PS how do I get the http link to show up?

message 12: by S.L. (new)

S.L. Shelton (wolfewriter) | 50 comments Rebecca wrote: "PS how do I get the http link to show up?"
The app inserted links work okay. :)

message 13: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) I am so chuffed that our original format is proving most popular :)

message 14: by J.C. (new)

J.C. Wing (jcwing) | 67 comments Hi! I'd like to return for group 42 if there's a space available.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

message 15: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) At this rate G42 will start before G40 and G41!

message 16: by S.L. (new)

S.L. Shelton (wolfewriter) | 50 comments Jay wrote: "At this rate G42 will start before G40 and G41!"

Maybe instead of three levels, two would be more conducive. One clean and the one standard.

message 17: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) We'll find out as the trial progresses - all feedback will be helpful.

message 18: by Erik (new)

Erik Rivenes (erivenes) | 31 comments Is it too late to join? If not, please count me in.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

message 19: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (blacjak) | 42 comments Jay wrote: "At this rate G42 will start before G40 and G41!"

As I said before, I don't think you will have to form 40 and 41 as frequently as the general group, but they are close to being filled, so perhaps every 2 - 3 general groups, when you have enough moderators available to form 3 groups at a time again.

message 20: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) I'm wondering if it might be a good idea to keep the general groups running as normal and decide about more 18+ and clean groups when they've been through at least a couple of the 4 rounds, see how they get on.

message 21: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (blacjak) | 42 comments I think that would be a good idea... However, I am only one person.

message 22: by Mike (new)

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 551 comments I'd like to join group 42 if there's still a slot. I am also participating in group 36 (with a different book), but I have now finished my reviews for that.

This is my book: The Nine Horizons: Travels in Sundry Places

The Nine Horizons Travels in Sundry Places by Mike Robbins

Best regards, Mike

message 23: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Just one place left now until you can get going - same situation as G40 and G41. Who will make it first?

message 24: by S.L. (new)

S.L. Shelton (wolfewriter) | 50 comments They're neck and neck. Who will it be? The odds are on 42, but 40 and 41 have been working hard, gaining ground and street cred for longer...their stamina is incredible! The tension is nearly unbearable. :))))

message 25: by Hock (new)

Hock Tjoa (hockgtjoa) | 946 comments I'd like to be part of Review Round 42 and this is the book I'd like reviewed Heaven Is High and the Emperor Far Away, a Play by Hock G. Tjoa

message 26: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) OK, Hock, you make #10 so this group is complete. Would you also like to moderate it?

message 27: by Jay (last edited Jun 16, 2014 02:30PM) (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) In joining this group you have agreed TO REVIEW ANY ALLOCATED BOOK within the set 12 week limit.
If you don’t agree to that tell me now so that I can find another member who will do so.

There is no genre filtering.

If you are only willing to review your own preferred genres then sorry, but you’re better off finding a group that specialises in your preference. Here you might be asked to review fiction/non-fiction, adults’/children’s books, a religious text, BDSM, or anything in between. Allocation is entirely random and there will NOT be any rearranging of the listing to accommodate genre preference. The ONLY circumstance in which you may duck out of giving a review is if YOU provide a stand-in reviewer.

Let’s be honest here – we don’t all like the same things but we all want reviews. The only way this group can function is if we trust each other to behave honourably. And it IS perfectly possible to give a fair-minded review of a text that does not coincide with our normal choice of reading matter. If you need a few hints/tips, please see this thread:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Your group moderator will be

Please remember the commitment you are making to your fellow group members. If you don’t think you can manage to do 4 book reviews between these dates please let me know now. I will find someone else for this group and you will be able to choose a later group that will be more suitable for you. If you pull out after the start date for any reason it is the other members who will be faced with the problem of finding a replacement, or missing out on reviews, through no fault of their own. Please don’t ask the moderators to chase after replacements as we just don’t have the time.

It is the responsibility of the author to get their book to their reviewer in a format the reviewer can manage. There are no set dates for the start of each round. You can each work at your own pace, within the limits of the round deadlines. All reviews must be posted by 14 September.

When you have posted your review on GR please post a link to your review in this thread.

All reviews must be posted to GR, Amazon .com and Amazon.co.uk.

Postings to any other sites are by agreement by both author and reviewer.

If I’ve missed something that results in you being asked to review someone who has already reviewed you, please let me know asap.

You have the next week to exchange your book files. My advice is to use PM to give email addresses to each other (save the chance of spammers getting your addies from this open forum). I'll stay with you for the next week to answer your questions then I will become just a group member and Kathy will take over as your group moderator. Happy reviewing, everyone :)

That would be awkward. I think I'd rather mod any other group starting up.

Rebecca Hazell (rebecca_hazell) | 35 comments Dear Jay,
I just read your retirement letter and want to thank you for the fabulous job you did in creating, organizing and moderating these review groups. You deserve a medal and a rousing three cheers!
All the best to you,
Rebecca

message 30: by Jay (new)

Jay Howard (jay_howard) Thanks, Rebecca :)

News for this group - Hock would rather not mod a group he's in so Kathy will do the job for you. She'll be free in a week so I'll stay with you until then. Please post on this forum first if you have a problem as you might be able to help each other out. I'll check in when I can but you may have to wait for a reply after today.
