G.R. Paskoff (grpaskoff) | 258 comments "Must," no. "Want to," yes. And sometimes even the "want to read" book does not match the hype that I attached to it. In fact, that is probably often the case.

I am currently reading "Way of Kings" by Sanderson, which has been on my TBR list for a long time. It has glowing reviews but I am (25% through) not really drawn in. Another book that is on my TBR that I'm excited about is "The Poppy War" by Kuang.

But as far as a "must read," it would depend on your likes and dislikes. But as a SF/F writer, I would say that I "must" read some of the classics from Aasimov, Heinlein, Tolkien, etc. to understand what makes them so popular.

Leonie (leonierogers) | 1579 comments I love The Way of Kings and its sequels. But that just goes to show that we're all different. (Fortunately.)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 8073 comments G.R., I recently reread Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land. It's very dated now as far a attitudes toward women, but it you can get past that it's still a good read.

Nope. Though some that I did read for whatever reason subsequently ended up being talked about or made into popular movies, such as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
