No One Gets Out Alive-Adam Nevill. Haunted apartment building, but same idea!
I've been thinking of re-reading The Elementals and/or Duma Key. Maybe now is the time!

FLOATING STAIRCASE by Ronald Malfi would be a great choice.

It's a 1988 book that has been republished as part of the Ed and Lorraine Warren series.

Jeez, I'm going to have a hard time voting this month. I have about 10 of the suggested books on my TBR shelf, and the rest aren't just because I've already read them.

Yeah, it's not really a haunted house, just the contents of it is scary. The Shining is a better example of a King Haunted House story.
I want to nominate A Winter Haunting by Dan Simmons. But I'm happy if that's not chosen as it's kind a a sequel to Summer of Night (Don't look at the synopsis if you haven't reas SoN and want to).

I so agree. Any author that drags me up to the attic and leaves me having to turn the light on when I go to the toilet at night has my utmost respect in this genre haha.
