Goodreads Librarians Group discussion

I read many topics about a similar problem but still don't have a clear solution in my head. If some author is not originally English writer than in most cases his/her works are mostly in the author's native language and then, probably, he/she can have translation into different languages.

So, naturally his PRIMARY name should be in his native language. But the manual says that we have to use English name as a primary. For me it looks a bit ridiculous because then every non-English book has at least two authors which actually are just two version of a name of the same person. I would like to have some mechanism which allows just to combine them in one and that's it. But ok, now we have what we have.

Then, for non-English books we have at least two authors (if the user did everything based on the manual). And in the reality we have TWO author profiles. Both looks independent.

The main question: is there any way to combine such two (or, perhaps, even more) author profiles into one? Like we combine several editions of the same book.

Author profiles in different languages should not be merged, and can't be combined in another way than putting a link to the other profile in the description, which has been done for the example you linked to.

And are there any plans to change it somewhen? Or it is once and forever? For me it does not look like a convenient solution.
