I did 2. The Circle and The Hate U Give. Links for my discussion participation are in the books read thread. I'll have to dig through that thread to find them but I'll go do that for ya. :)

Lindsay♫SingerOfStories♫ (lindsaysingerofstories) | 707 comments Here's the post with the THUG BOM discussion participation.

And here is the post with The Circle BOM discussion participation.

I want/wanted to do Strange the Dreamer and The Gunslinger as well but I haven't gotten to them yet. :\

I reposted it in the books read thread. And yes! I did participate. Thanks!

I promise I'll read more starting July 2nd... school ends, so I'm hoping to read about a book a day or every other day. :)

Candace W | 372 comments I'm trying to get through one of the BOM books, You. Struggling a little with it. I don't hate it, but the style is a bit different. The total present tense, short sentence structure is bizarre. I understand it in context, but it can be a bit jaunting to read. I think I have to July 2, right?

I hated You. I didn't mind the sentence structure or present tense, but I think that's because I listened to the audio (the narrator was brilliant). I find it easier to "read" bad books in audio version, it doesn't stop but pushed forward when I'd normally just chug the book and gone to do something else for a while. I minded the overall story. I hated all the characters in that book. Needless to say I'm not picking up book 2!

I really liked you, but I also tend to like books where the characters are really hate-able.

Jennifer (jenniferandkimya) | 143 comments Still here. Still reading. Almost done with Hansons Marathon Method Run Your Fastest Marathon the Hansons Way by Luke Humphrey .

And a friend recommended I read this: Ill Wind by Kevin J. Anderson . It sounds fantastically awful: a bacteria that eats anything petroleum based. Honestly. That is so bad I can't wait to read it.

Candace W | 372 comments That is definitely an interesting plot. I find there are some books that I've read purely because they sounded just so utterly ridiculous, I had to read them. Some of them weren't bad either. Some were though.

I picked up The Gunslinger. I can still read that for the BOM points right? I have until July 22, as per our team spreadsheet?

Lindsay♫SingerOfStories♫ (lindsaysingerofstories) | 707 comments My reading update: I'm almost done with what I'm reading now, and I'm also working my way through an audiobook. I have a copy of The Gunslinger which I am planning on picking up next. I also own 2 of the 3 BOM's for the month of July so hopefully I will get around to those. Plus whatever I can get my hands on of course. =]

Bety (betyplusbooks) | 211 comments Hi everyone!

I got through The Te of Piglet, How To Be an Imperfectionist, and Fellside recently.

I'm trying to get through Stranger in a Strange Land, but I'm not enjoying it much and it's really putting me off reading. I'm also about halfway through Girl in Pieces, which I liked but it was due back at the library so I'm waiting to get my turn again on the hold and finish it, and I'm working through On the Edge by Ilona Andrews, which I bought last year so it's on my to-read-2017 list.

I feel like I've really gotten behind on my reading in the last month or so. I thought I would read a lot while my partner was gone on a work trip for two weeks, but mostly I just ended up moping and watching Netflix.

I REALLY want to get back into reading a lot though, because I have a goal of reading all the books I personally bought (or asked for and was given as a gift) before this year, and there are 25 left on that list, and a lot of those are series that I may want to read the sequels of immediately after. So... I have a pretty heavy reading year ahead of me if I'm going to get that done!

Not only that, but I have a personal rule that I can only buy books so long as there's space on my to-read shelf, and I broke that rule the other day and so now have an overflow, so I gotta catch up!

message 575: by Candace (new)

Candace W | 372 comments I've got Gunslinger on deck, but I have American Gods to read first, as it's due back at the library and I can't renew it for more time.

I signed up for Kindle Unlimited and have my Kindle open at work all the time (which I am sure my boss loves), so I get through those books faster.

I am in the midst of moving, but once I am fully moved in, I will have a longer commute, so I will have more reading time as a result, cause what else can you do on the train?

message 576: by Candace (new)

Candace W | 372 comments Also - I already read Woman in Cabin 10 and now it's a BOM. Can I participate in the discussion for the points or would they not count because I read the book prior to it being a BOM?

I think so. I believe it's allowed as long as you read it within the TT timeline.

Bety (betyplusbooks) | 211 comments Conversation topic: how have your book preferences changed over time?

message 579: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jenniferandkimya) | 143 comments I finally updated my books. Thanks for being patient with me. I kind of just buried my nose in a book these past couple of weeks and didn't really update Goodreads, so it was kind of a pain to work backwards.

Ooo, excuse to read Woman in Cabin 10.

How do you read at work, Candace? My boss would kill me, even though I work in a library!

My book preferences haven't changed a lot: I still love classic literature (ie: Dracula, White Fang, 1984, Stranger in a Strange Land, Lady Chatterley's Lover), but I do read a lot more fantasy and science fiction. Mostly this is due to finally discovering fantasy and science fiction authors beyond Tolkien. I used to read a lot more medical mysteries, but now I find I can't stomach the writing style. I expect my authors to write well, but I still love fast-paced books that zoom along. For example, lately, Blake Crouch has been my new author of choice: fast-paced science fiction mysteries. Hell yes! I zoomed through the Wayward Pines trilogy and Dark Matter, so I'll have to get more from the library when I get home.

Caly ☯ Crazy Book Lady | 596 comments Bethany wrote: "Conversation topic: how have your book preferences changed over time?"

Growing up I read either fantasy or books about animals and for the most part carried the love of fantasy/sci-fi into adulthood. But I have always had a love of medieval history/China and found myself searching out historical fiction books over time and to be honest that was almost exclusively what I read until I discovered Goodreads. Partly it has been finding out the multitude of books and authors out there that I had not heard of but I mostly credit the challenges that have broaden my reading vocabulary. Along with Fantasy and Historical Fiction I know seek out and love books that are Thrillers, Suspense, Memoirs, YA dystopian, and just about anything that is not Romance. I still can't stomach the formulaic way most of those books are written and I just don't do sappy, in books or on TV for that matter.

I'm a Kindle Unlimited person, and more and more of the KU books available have the Audible version included. In order to get anything done at my desk, I need to have my earbuds in anyway. Win-win.

message 582: by Bety (new)

Bety (betyplusbooks) | 211 comments I used to only read Fantasy and Christian Fiction as a kid (I'm a pastor's kid, so it was fully half of what was recommended to me).

I'm still a fantasy junkie, but I rarely read anything remotely Christian anymore. I'm also enjoying memoirs, non-fiction, science fiction, historical fiction, thrillers, and literature. I've liked a couple romances, but I'm very, very picky.

The biggest change I've had recently is that I'm enjoying YA books less, which is disappointing because it's so easy to get recommendations for and I have a friend who almost always has something for me to borrow.

I just prop my Kindle up on my desk and have it open just about all day. Whenever I need a break, I read a few pages. My boss knows about it and though he doesn't like it, as long as I do all my work on time, etc, he doesn't care too much.

I posted a question to Rachael Caine this morning and I have posted my review of Ink and Bone. Just picked up a copy of Paper and Fire from the Library so I will be reading that this weekend. Going on vacation though so may not post much or update the SS so if you can keep an eye on things Bethany that would be awesome. 8-)

Anyone have any great books they want to share? I recently finished Wildfire and now believe Ilona Andrews can do no wrong. The three book series was amazing and I hope they decide to continue it as I love the characters.

I am currently reading Girl with a Pearl Earring which is really good.
Probably the best books I have read recently were Ink and Bone (The Great Library, #1) by Rachel Caine and Paper and Fire (The Great Library, #2) by Rachel Caine
really good start to the series, though I hear now that book 3 may not be as good because she turned a trilogy into a 5 book series but I am still anxious to read it.

I just checked and they seem to be fine now. We are in 16th place and if the teams close to us don't do a final update we may end up there.

Unfortunately your last book was posted as finished on 7/30 and the game ended on 7/29 so we can't count that one but everyone did an awesome job so thank you!
