Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments I am proud to say I only utilize the public library! I don't have an ereader & hate reading on my tablet. I like the feel and smell of actual books. I am also poor & live in a small apartment, so no longer purchase books. If I can't get it from the library, I don't read it. That being said, Hawaii has a wonderful public system! There's no limit to the amount of books you can borrow. I have 122 books out right now. You can search the system online & usually get even a popular book within a week. I go visit my neighborhood branch every Monday afternoon & leave with shopping bags full of books!

The lake sounds nice! Whereabouts are you located? I haven't been to the beach yet this year. Right now it's coolish and rainy. Damn you, global warming!
My husband & I are going to see Santana in concert on Sunday evening. I'm pretty excited for that!

wish I could say I was participating. My husband is dragging me shopping this afternoon. Wish I could I would enjoy it but it's not type of shopping I want to do. At least I will have my phone with me listening to an audio and drive him crazy when he has to repeat himself.

I live in Charlotte, NC and we will be going to Lake Norman. Suppose to be in the 80's so it will be a great day to be on the lake.

That's a good idea. I should tell him I need to go to the mall so I can go to my two story B&N and then go to Victoria's Secrets. He hates going in there with me. He gets embarrassed when other women are shopping in there.

The heat index is 41 though. In that weather, you don't even need to do anything to start sweating. Dehydration and heat strokes are growing popular.

I'm going to be watching the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie tomorrow. I'm excited, though I sadly didn't watch the first one. Yet. I hope I can remedy that in the future.

Our public libraries are mostly academic in nature, and it's not like I read history, math, and science books for fun (unless it's sci-fi or historical fiction) so that doesn't work for me.

That really sucks. That sound like the month of July for me.

I love Guardians and Chris Pratt. he is such a great guy. I think it was two Superbowls ago when Seattle and New England played. He and Chris Evans made a bet on whoever's team loses that they would have to go in costume to the children's hospital in the winning team's city. They both wound up going in costume in New England and then came down to Charlotte, since it's his hometown. Absolutely loved it that no one knew until after the fact and he and Chis Evans did it for the kids not the media attention.

Bummer! We have everything -- fiction, non-fiction, childrens, reference, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks... You name it! My nerdy dream is to work my way through the fiction portion of my neighborhood library until I've read it all. Alphabetically by author, of course!

Girl, you need to see the 1st Guardians movie! It's hysterical! I'm sure the new one is awesome, but I think the jokes will make more sense if you watch the original first.... Ours isn't in theaters till May 5th.

message 214: by [deleted user] (new)

Quick question: Only the books that you started after the 4th will count right? Cause then I will wait with reading a few (big) books :D

message 215: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) Yes. The mods should post a countdown clock so we will know when we can start since the group encompasses so many time zones.

There is one!;

ChrisP Poyner | 67 comments I'm still dealing with flooding. Record amounts of rain has fallen in the last few days. Going to be up late tonight watching the water levels to make sure it doesn't enter the house. The rain should clear by noon tomorrow.

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments Carlos Santana was totally awesome! I'm sooo glad we went! I'm happy to have given up Into the Badlands and my endless books to have seen him live in concert! Oh, and date nite with my husband was pretty good, too!

Chris, we had flash flood warnings on Friday. Luckily we live on the 6th floor! What is going on with the worlds weather??

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments The weather has been weirdly good here this weekend. Usually when it's a long weekend we get horizontal rain.

Unfortunately I made the mistake of doing a bit of gardening and unleashed an army of ants some of which have decided to move indoors. Needless to say I've spent today on cleaning and ant killing. Got most but fairly sure two are hiding behind the skirting. I freak out about any creepy crawly so no sleep for me tonight.

I hate ants. Last year I had so many of them and a few wasps nest that I had to break down and get a pest service to get ride of them.

message 225: by ♦Ashley♦ (new)

♦Ashley♦ (ascherger12gmailcom) | 1131 comments oh yes! We have a lot of wasps around our house. We have already gone through 2 cans of wasp spray.

We had ants in our sunroom last summer. We put out ant traps and I sprayed some peppermint and lemongrass oil mixed with water around the room. Took care of those suckers!

Is there a specific format you would prefer for completed books? What info do you want included? I know it's a little earlier, but I'm starting to keep track of my "The Circle" discussion posts.

message 227: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) Good question, I was curious too. Are we going to get a completed book thread?

message 228: by ChrisP (new)

ChrisP Poyner | 67 comments Did I miss a link? From TT4 I remember a google doc spreadsheet we all shared. Do you know if we are going to have that again?

message 229: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I was assuming there would be a super duper spreadsheet but no doubt we'll find out soon.

I've just noticed the June BOM nomination threads are open. Has anyone nominated anything yet? I had a look at the nominations so far and there aren't many that appeal. May need to go nominate something.

message 230: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) I haven't looked yet. Will check it out when I get on my computer

message 231: by [deleted user] (new)

We've heard nothing about a separate completed books thread. I've asked if we'll have one in the captains group.

The spreadsheets should be available soon. We'll know more about what we'll need people to post when they're available.

I love listening to James Marsters. I can't believe I'm on the wait list for Dead Beat. I requested the audio for it and received a message this morning that it's available. When I went to overdrive, all copies were checked out.

I have almost completed Fool Moon the 2nd book of the series. If feels for very similar to Kim Harrison Rachel Morgan series. I'm not saying I had a book crush on Rachel but I had a crush on Rachel:)

I just finished answering DQ's for day 1 so I am a bit behind schedule. Hoping to be caught this evening. I got distracted with Fantastic Beasts last night. I'm not sure if I am going to see it in theaters yet. I always plan on seeing mo vies and more often than not have to wait until it's on DVD because I procrastinate. When I visit my sister in Ohio in a week and half she may drag me. She always goes to the movies on Tuesdays since it cheaper.

message 247: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) Anyone know what they are going to start off reading tomorrow?

I need The Great Zoo of China for another challenge that I need to listen to tomorrow (I have 13 hours to listen to it so it will count for Amazing Race and TT) and then The Nightingale since it's due back soon. I may put that one off till the weekend if I need something else or get distracted. The latest Court of Thorns book is really calling and I want to reread the first two books first.
