Ora (oeamis) So are we suppose to add our own books to the spreadsheet or is that something only for the captains to do? I guess my concern is that books may get lost if we are chatty and may be difficult for the captains to keep track of them along with everyone knowing the current tasks.

We again have 'magic' spreadsheets. :) Captain will have to click on remake button and spreadsheet will add your books on tt shelf that have date finished. :)
All you have to do is put book on right shelf and make sure it has dates

I'm reading The Good, the Bad, and the Undead right now! Yup, Rachel is pretty hot! I've never read the Dresden Files before, either. Must remedy that soon!

The Good, the Bad, and the Undead (The Hollows, #2) by Kim Harrison

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments I'll have extra reading time, but not in a good way. Had to go to the ER yesterday. I have diverticulitis! I'll be out sick got at least the rest of this week & possibly longer. Got some great pain melds, so when I'm conscious, I'll be reading! I might start out with A Discovery of Witches, but not sure yet..

Oh no. Hope you feel better soon. My mum had that last year and she was in a lot of pain.

I really enjoyed A Discovery of Witches so hopefully you'll like it too!

Maybe I missed this earlier, but how long will this challenge last? I'm trying to strike the right balance between long, medium & short books...😀

Approximately 3-4 months. At least that how long the last one took.

Ora (oeamis) Anyone else feel likes it's Black Friday waiting for the stores to open?

I am at a loss this morning not listening to an audio while I get my morning cup of tea and check goodreads. I guess it's morning shows until I have to leave in a couple of hours.

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Yep I'm the same Ora. Think I'm going to go book shopping so I'm all stocked up :)

message 266: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) I need to go by the used book store to see if I can find A Gentleman in Moscow. I'm still pretty high on the wait list at my library and don't like spending so much for a book unless it's from a favorite author.

message 267: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I was lucky and got that one from NetGalley. I'm hunting for the new Patrick Ness book Release. Going to see him on Saturday so hoping to read before then.

I read The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking, #1) by Patrick Ness and really like it and his writing style until (view spoiler) Does any of his others have that type of violence. I wouldn't mind reading another of his books if I don't have to worry about that.

message 269: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Can't see spoiler as on app but can probably guess which part you mean.

I think that book is probably the worst for violence but I just finished More Than This and it was pretty brutal at times. I don't think The Rest of Us Just Live Here was too bad although it's not my favourite. A Monster Calls is brilliant and not overly violent but really sad.

message 270: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Got lucky with my book shopping. Release was half price in WH Smith so even cheaper than Amazon. Also managed to snag a hardback of Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Fallen for £3. I love their clearance section.

Stacey Kennedy | 250 comments I am going to start with The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater on audio because I loved her raven cycle series.

On a separate note I'm feeling a little chagrined because I have never participated in BOM DQs! If you'd like me to figure out how to and help out I am happy to figure it out!

Stacey, you get participation points for reading the BOM and answering DQ in the tread. There's usually 3 BOM each month. You don't have to participate unless it's a book you find interesting and want to read it. There's a 20 point incentive for participation. There is a scheduled start date for each book at the top of the thread. People are assigned DQ for different days, you can answer them or just type a post with your thoughts.

Thank you! Yes I now see I've scanned these before and I think I haven't participated is usually because they are current (expensive;)) books and I almost never buy a book over $10 anymore bc that would get waaaaay too expensive!
I would like to read Strange The Dreamer though- wish I could find it cheaper
And do you need to pre-sign up for answering DQ or is that only if you are writing them?
Thank you for your patience;)

You only need to sign up if you are volunteering to write DQs. I am on the wait for Strange the Dreamer and A Gentleman in Moscow. It really sucks when BOMs are popular and have a long wait list.

I loved it! I gave it 5 stars. It has kind of a Jurassic park theme with dragons but it is so much more. I really want a dragon like Lucky. She is awesome!

Yes, there won't be regular tasks. They might do some mini-challenges. I'm not sure that they've made up their minds about that though.

Ora's right. You have a month to read and contribute to the thread. You don't even have to answer the DQs if you don't want to. As long as you comment in the thread and join in the discussion you get the points - it does have to be more than just stating 'I liked the book' though.

Yeah, I read that. I knew that this was a possibility after I had my first colonoscopy last year & they told me I have diverticulosis. Apparently it's more common in Hawaii. Like 1 in 3 people have it because we don't eat a high enough fiber diet. I go see my dr. this afternoon to see what she has to say.

But, hey! I finished a bunch of books and am starting more for Tower Teams. Yaaaayy!

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments Thanks, everyone for the good thoughts! Leading off with A Discovery of Witches, And I Darken for my big books. Then I'll see what tasks I get for my 2 other group challenges tomorrow and fit those in. I think my (unofficial) adult ADD might come in handy! I love to read multiple books simultaneously. 😀
