message 3: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 3665 comments I'm not sure how much reading I will get in, but I will be reading. :)

message 4: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments Same, I don't have any major plans this month. I'm too tied up with school ATM.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 3665 comments Are your finals this month?

message 6: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments Finals? No, I don't. Is that an American thing?

message 7: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 3665 comments Oh, I guess so. I guess I had never thought of that. It's just all the last tests at the end of the semester/term.

message 8: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments Oh! Okay. Sorry. No, I don't have them because in Australia our school years follow the actual calendar year - not around the summer months like America + the UK - so I've actually just started my second term for the year.

message 9: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments Thanks for asking though. I love seeing how different everyone's school systems are! You'd think Australia would be similar to the US but we're really not, haha.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 3665 comments Oh, so you have year round school then? And just have breaks throughout?

message 11: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 3665 comments And I really, really want to visit Australia!

message 12: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments Yeah, so we get a Christmas holiday from about mid-December to mid-January and start our school year in late Jan and then finish the school year in December. We have four terms throughout the year which are ten to twelve weeks long - depends on your state - and two weeks break between them. I know it is incredibly biased of me to say this but it just makes so much more sense to me to have a school year within the actual year, you know? I don't understand the need to have one school year over the course of two years...?

Anyway, you should definitely visit!

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 3665 comments Not much about the way schools are run makes a lot of sense, really. Haha. I teach at a college, so I can say that. :p

It's one of my goals! Now I just have to make it happen! Flights to Australia are expensive, and long!

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments Oh, that's cool. I'm a first year uni student myself, and from my reading experience, I can attest that American 'colleges' are quite different from Aussie unis - and not in a good way, haha.

Yeah, I know. It sucks. It why most of us don't travel internationally! You should def come down to SA if you make it over.
