...I didn't spend so much time on GoodReads finding more books to add to my TBR list. :)

What reasons do you have for why you don't always read as much as you want to? What distracts you from reading that towering pile of books in your home or on your ereader?

Angel | 48 comments I'm a mom so there's that and I have a very short attention span and run my own businesses. Not many books hold my attention.

Stephanie (stephthebookworm) If I didn't work FT.
If I didn't have a toddler.
If I spent less time on social media.

Aiya | 16 comments If I didn't have to graduate from college this semester...
If I didn't like going out with friends...
If I wasn't a movie addict...
If I didn't have all these other stupid interests. ^_-

Even still, I probably read enough. I was the only kid I knew whose parents would punish her by taking away her books. LOL

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) If I didn't spend so much time on social media!
If I could read at night like I used to...now it makes me sleepy!
If I could sit and read without thinking of a million things I *ought* to be doing...

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 1471 comments . . . people in my house would shut off the dang tv (it's loud and distracting and my house is one level and small)

. . . I didn't turn the tv on myself and get sucked in.

. . . I was independently wealthy and could hire servants and didn't have to work

. . . I stayed off social media completely. It's so easy to lose hours of my life that way.

- if it wasn't baseball season. My team is actually winning so it's hard to turn the game off and read!

Kelly B (kellybey) | 630 comments I spent less time on the internet. Goodreads and also travel related websites suck up way too much of my time.

I bought a large bookmark at B&N that says "SHHHHH! I'm reading" and I prop it up in front of me.

sigh... my husband still doesn't take the hint.

Erin (ems84) | 9060 comments Work. If it wasn't for that I would probably be spending most of my days reading.

message 25: by Ninetailedkat (new)

Ninetailedkat | 67 comments Outside of work, its the kid stuff, cleaning and other life chores/responsibilities right now that prevent me from reading as much as I want. By the time the day is done, and I have the time, I am "head bobbing" and struggling to stay awake!!! (This is no fault of the books I have chosen.....) I am so far behind in what I want to read, the stack of books next to my bed is huge and my husband is convinced one good earthquake will bury me.

...if I had my old job back. I used to work in a mailroom, with a public library across the street. As I only did about 15 minutes of actual work in the average day there was plenty of time to read. I was usually going through 2-4 books a week at least, depending on how big a book I was reading. Ironically, I'm 'between jobs' now and don't read nearly as much as I would like. :\

message 27: by Angela (last edited Feb 18, 2018 07:11PM) (new)

Angela Verdenius (angelacatlover) I didn't have a day job, plus writing in my off-time. In fact, I'd read more if someone would pay me to stay home and read!!!! Most of my reading is now done while eating lunch if I'm home on a day off, and at night in bed. Unfortunately, I last about half an hour then wake up with the book (or kindle), lying on my belly. Sigh. Once I could read for several hours without falling asleep...am I getting old??
