Same here! I tried to spend less time on social media but somehow it made me restless and found it hard to focus so I didn't read as much as I would've liked to. But as you say, any time reading is time well spent!

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Hope you had a great rest of the 'thon! I stayed away from Goodreads for the final 2 hours and felt accomplished in the end!

message 56: by Angie (new)

Angie | 169 comments Thanks, Elyse. I did have a great readathon. Hours 18-24, weren't that productive reading-wise. I hosted two hourly discussions and had to rush off, as I had agreed to meet my sister. But never mind... I really enjoyed the whole event and the books. I'm already looking forward to October, lol.

PS:
That's a very good idea, to stay off Goodreads for some time, I did that for the two reading-sprints (Hours 5 and 9) and it was really worth it.

What else?
I particularly enjoyed Bingo (although I did not complete as many tasks as I had hoped) and had great fun with Kait's Mini Challenge of "Vague Recollections" https://www.kaitgoodwin.com/books/min... . Thanks, Kait!
Although I wasn't really looking forward to it I got hooked on my audiobook Mevis Cheek, Janice Gentle Gets Sexy and intend to finish it soon.
I took out two graphic novels from the library to read as part of the "read a genre outside your comfort zone" task on the bingo sheet. I didn't get round to read them during the readathon, but I flicked through them and I'm now very excited to make a start on them soon.

Angie | 169 comments Just signed up, wohoo!!!

With the Reverse-Readathon, I have an akward start time... 2AM.
I'm still not sure whether it would be better to stay up late and celebrate kick-off with everybody else, or whether it wouldn't be wiser to join in 4-5 hours late, and be fully rested... mmhh...hopefully I can make up my mind by August 2nd. :-)

message 71: by Angie (new)

Angie | 169 comments Reverse-Readathon means that my start time will be in the middle of the night, so I won't be aiming for the full 24 hours.
I also don't know yet how much time I'll be able to free up this weekend, so unfortunately, this is going to be another downscaled readathon for me. (It's become a bit of a theme recently...) But never mind, I'm looking forward to popping in for some hourly discussions, and of course I'm also very much looking forward to some uninterruped reading-time in the evening.

My TBR is still work in progress. Ideally I'd like to start a new book for the readathon, but I'm currently in the middle of several books at the moment, therefore it all depends on what I'll be able to finish before the weekend.

I'll probably be listening to some of The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue. I'm half-way in, it's fun and light and I love the narrator!
Then, as a physical book there is Lethal White. I really like it, but somehow I'm not making any headway.

No worries . Still looks like you have a good plan for the reverse read-a-thon . I probably won't be able to do the entire 24 hours either , maybe half that if I'm lucky .

I won't be able to make it a full 24 hours one, but never mind. I'm excited to be able to devote at least a couple of hours to uninterrupted reading this weekend. Lately I've had very little time for books...

TBR - coming soon.
(I'm very much in the mood for some crime/mystery novels and I have lots of those waiting to be read, as I am mainly reading classics this month.)

Angie | 169 comments Closing Survey

How would you assess your reading overall?
I manged to read more than I had originally expected. I squeezed in short reading periods among other commitments and in the end it added up nicely, I think.

Did you have a stategy, and if so, did you stick to it?
This time round, I had several books on the go during the readathon, because I wanted to check off a decent amount of Bingo squares. That went alright, but I think I will go back to reading just 1-2 books for the next one in April.

What was your favorite snack?
All of them!

Wanna volunteer for our next event? Stay tuned for the recap post!
That very much depends on what 2021 brings...

Angie | 169 comments Wrap-up October 2020

Time Read: 5 hrs 48 min
Time Audio: 1 hr 20 min
Total: 6 hrs 08 min

Pages Total: 266 (audio not incl.)
Books completed: 0

books read:
Der stumme Tod Der zweite Rath-Roman (Die Gereon-Rath-Romane 2) by Volker Kutscher Bats in the Belfry A London Mystery by E.C.R. Lorac Hallowe'en Party (Hercule Poirot, #39) by Agatha Christie The Penguin Book of English Short Stories by Christopher Dolley The Pull of the Stars by Emma Donoghue (audio)

Food and Drink
grapes, smarties, biscuits, nachos, ham sandwich, cereals, water, tea, coffee

What else?
I got two bingos and participated in the 'This or That Mini Challenge'.
I didn't finish a single book, instead I switched back and forth between several. It was okay, but I think I'll go back to reading just 1 or 2 next time, as it feels much more satisfying to make visible progress in one book, rather than reading a tiny portion in 4.
It would be lovely to be able to go to the library again in April, because I missed having graphic novels as an option for the readathon and I don't own any myself.

I had a blast and I'm already looking forward to the next Dewey's in April!

Great job, Angie! I agree, graphic novels are a must. I read some on Hoopla and Kindle Unlimited this time around. But I do prefer having a graphic novel in my hand much more than electronically.

Angie | 169 comments *reactivating this thread for April 2021*

How lovely to be back for another Dewey's! I don’t plan to read for the full 24-hours because I also have a couple of other commitments this weekend. My main aim is to squeeze in as much reading time as I can, without too much stress.

Books
Going in without a planned TBR, yikes!! :-)

Bingo
Bingo, yes or no?
I feel like last readathon, I put too much focus on meeting the prompts on the bingo board. That’s why I want to keep it lighter this time. Rather than seeking out specific books to go with the bingo sheet, I’d prefer to see which squares I can complete with the books I’m currently reading anyway. Goal: 1-2 rows -- a bit of fun but not too much pressure.

Food and Drinks
Pretty much like last time, I don't have any special meals planned. I'm starting after lunch on Saturday in my timezone, therefore I'm going to have a simple sandwich in the evening.
Snacks: crisps, Maltesers, Haribo, biscuits, Twix, grapes.
For drinks there is coffee, tea, juice, water... maybe a naughty glass of wine.

Welcome back Angie!
That's how I handle the bingo as well: I read what I want to read and see how that fits the squares :)

Angie | 169 comments Opening survey

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? --- I'm in the South of Germany.

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? --- I'm most looking forward to The Windsor Knot by S.J. Bennett. A crime novel in which Queen Elizabeth II secretly solves crimes sounds cute and fun, yet at the same time this could turn out to be rather silly (?) … I’m very intrigued to find out what it’s like.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? --- At the moment I’m most looking forward to a cup of tea and a chocolate bar.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself! --- eclectic reader, 30-something, avid tea-drinker, forever dreaming of Tardis-like bookshelves.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today. --- Last readathon I switched back and forth between several books because I wanted to complete as many Bingo squares as possible. This time however, I think I’ll stick to just 1-2 books, seems to work better for me. I also didn’t include any audiobooks this time.
