So excited to be reading this one with you all (sorry for my absence, by the way :( ).

It has been on my TBR list for so long. I purchased right away after it won the poll to be our May reading. Have been saving it since. Next week I hand in my final paper for this semester, and this book will be my treat.

I'll be reading the Riverhead trade paperback edition.

Samantha Coates | 8 comments I've recently finished reading this book and loved it. I have read many negative reviews so it feels a bit wrong to have enjoyed Diaz' writing. The story of Oscar and his family including his ancestors was harrowing with some moments of joy. The political history of the Dominican Republic is described frequently throughout this story which helped to highlight how much I do not know about this part of the world.
I would be keen to read more both by the author and any novels set in this part of the world.
