Bill It's time for the nominations for the May / Jun 2017 group read. This month you'll be nominating mysteries/crime fiction that were written by authors whose last name begins with the letter 'H'. There are a number of great series and standalone novels that fall into this category.

Authors we've read as a group before are okay to nominate, but please make sure we haven't read the particular book. My next post will list the specific books we're already read.

NOW -- for the usual stuff:

1. If your nomination wins the poll vote, you will become the de facto discussion leader. Do NOT nominate a book if you do not wish to do this.

2. When a book gets to the poll, please please please -- if you don't really want to read it, don't vote for it.

3. This is not the place for authors to promote their own work.

4. If the book is in a series, it might be wise to start with book #1 rather than somewhere mid-series.

Let the nominations begin!

Gisela Hafezparast | 368 comments OK, it is not a very good tactic to nominate a relatively unknown (in the English speaking word at least) author, I will nevertheless nominate Until the Debt is Paid. It deserves a chance.

I'm hesitant to add it, Anchita as it's only just recently been published.

message 17: by Skye (new)

Skye | 2105 comments It's only in Hard back for me at Barnes and Noble.

message 18: by Marian (new)

Marian Its kind of a brand new book out Skye,at the moment..don't know when the paperback is coming out.

message 19: by Skye (new)

Skye | 2105 comments It won't be out for awhile; I think that's what Bill meant.

message 20: by Bill (new)

Bill We just like to ensure that everybody has a reasonable opportunity to read it and take part in the discussions if they choose. As far as I can tell, it's only been released in the last month or so, if not in early May.

message 22: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Ervin | 27 comments I love gentle mysteries by Carolyn Hart. There is an Agatha Christie air to her stories. Carolyn's husband Phil died last month so her book production may take a hit. She is a trooper but can probably use boosts from her friends and loyal readers. Just saying....

message 23: by Anchita (new)

Anchita (autumn02) | 77 comments Yes, Bill. May 2, 2017 is it's publishing date. It might not be available to all the readers.
Well, no worries, maybe next time we can pick it up!

Carolyn Hart has three series - Death on Demand, Henrie O and Bailey Ruth Ghost and several stand alone mysteries. Which book/series are you nominating?

Are you nominating one, Sharon?

message 26: by Bill (new)

Bill I'll keep the thread open for a couple of more days folks. Hoping for a few more nominations. Then I'll set up the poll. If you can't think of any 'H' authors, here are some possibles..

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...

or maybe some thriller writers...

I bet this isn't all inclusive.. Good luck, anyway.

Sharon Ervin | 27 comments THE NIGHTINGALE by Kristine Hannah is an amazing book depicting crimes in World War II, particularly by Nazis in France.

Nominate one of Carolyn Hart's books? Sometimes I feel like a ghost, sometimes I don't. If I have to pick just one today, it has to be DON'T GO HOME.

Bill Are you nominating either The Nightingale or Don't Go Home, Sharon? I didn't realize you listed two different books.

message 32: by Tone (new)

Tone | 1759 comments I'd like to nominate THE DRY by JANE HARPER. It's a debut, taking place in rual Australia, published in 2015.

Nell Bill wrote: "Sharon wrote: "THE NIGHTINGALE by Kristine Hannah is an amazing book depicting crimes in World War II, particularly by Nazis in France.,,

The Nightingale is an excellent book but it's not a mystery/thriller. The crimes in this novel are because of the war.

"Nominate one of Carolyn Hart's books? ... If I have to pick just one today, it has to be DON'T GO HOME.

This is #25 in Carolyn Hart's Death on Demand series. It was published last week.

You're right; it's #26 in the series came that out last week.

message 37: by Bill (new)

Bill Unfortunately, not too many nominations for this category. I'll wait until tomorrow and then stick up the poll.

message 38: by Skye (new)

Skye | 2105 comments There aren't many authors with H as the beginning of the last name. I was going to nominate a Mary Higgins-Clark novel, but hesitated with picking one of her many books. I do like her a lot.

I've never heard any of her work, but it's wonderful to see how readers connect/feel for the writers they love to follow and read!
