In college I remember being assigned Tey's The Daughter of Time to read for a history class.

I use to live 2 doors down for the Archaeology museum when I attended school in Ann Arbor. I loved Murder in Mesopotamia and Death on the Nile. The Daughter of Time was also quite good.
Given your twin interests in Archaeology and mystery, I recommend the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters. The first in the series is Crocodile on the Sandbank. She really hit her stride with the second, The Curse of the Pharaohs. The author was a Egyptologist trained at the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago. It's my favorite series.
