Valancourt Books (valancourt_books) | 271 comments Available at long last: Michael McDowell's THE ELEMENTALS! Stephen King and Peter Straub hailed McDowell as the best paperback horror novelist of his day, and more recently Poppy Z Brite has called this book "surely the most terrifying novel ever written". Readers and critics are currently rediscovering McDowell as a lost master of Southern Gothic literature: read this unique haunted house story and find out why. Features a new introduction by award-winning horror author Michael Rowe and blindingly spooky cover art by M.S. Corley.

Book Description

A haunted house story unlike any other, Michael McDowell’s The Elementals (1981) was one of the finest novels to come out of the horror publishing explosion of the 1970s and ’80s. Though best known for his screenplays for Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice and The Nightmare Before Christmas, McDowell is now being rediscovered as one of the best modern horror writers and a master of Southern Gothic literature. This edition of McDowell’s masterpiece of terror features a new introduction by award-winning horror author Michael Rowe. McDowell’s first novel, the grisly and darkly comic The Amulet (1979), is also available from Valancourt Books.

Awesome!

Off to get my copy now!

Valancourt Books (valancourt_books) | 271 comments Hope you enjoy it! If you're familiar with 'The Amulet' you'll know how great of a writer he is, but it's a completely different style of horror with this one. He was a master. Let me know what you think!

Char | 17459 comments I bought The Amulet a month or so back but haven't gotten to it yet. I'm off to buy this one now. I'm very excited because so many people have told me how great his work is. :)

Edited to add that I shared this on Facebook and I saw that Jon did too. Hope it helps you! It's great to see some of these old works become available again.

Valancourt Books (valancourt_books) | 271 comments The Amulet is my favorite of his. No doubt you'll enjoy it.

Thanks for the shares!

BookWoman | 6 comments That you so much for reprinting this! I cherish my worn and tattered copy and am looking forward to owning a fresh copy.

Are there any plans to reprint "A Cold Moon Over Babylon"?

Valancourt Books (valancourt_books) | 271 comments Right now we only have rights for The Amulet and The Elementals but we would love to do that one!

That's too bad. "Cold Moon Over Babylon" is another favorite. Maybe some day.
