Kate S | 6459 comments 20.1 Popular Lists

In honor of The Count of Monte Cristo, All the Light We Cannot See, and Jane Eyre, read any book that appears in the top 10 of any GR listopia that has at least 1000 voters. To clarify, the list needs to have at least 1000 voters, not necessarily the book. Please post a link to the list with the title of your intended read in the help thread before posting your claim for the book.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14234 comments The easiest way to find the lists with 1000 or more votes is to go to Browse > Lists and scroll all the way to the bottom and click on the header "Popular Lists" (duh!). The first 750 or so lists have 1000 or more votes.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14234 comments Also, the need to post here as you identify your intended (hope to read?) title, is to protect yourself from titles falling out of the top 10. But it also helps your scorekeepers do a little work before the actual scorekeeping session, and we prefer that.

They seem to be structured a little differently than other Listopias

Yes. GR has programmed those to limit by a range of dates, but they are not static lists and have votes, and, as such, qualify for this task.

We need links, Jayme.

Edit: If you will at least link the books, I can probably see the qualifying list for you.

This will work. Please make a not of this approval when claiming the book for points.

Valerie Brown | 3271 comments I liked itpdx's idea and found this list: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/85 However, I don't see where it says how many people voted on the overall list (I only see #s on the book listing).

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14234 comments Valerie wrote: " I don't see where it says how many people voted on the overall list"

beneath the listings on each page is (for example):

466 books · 935 voters · list created June 25th, 2008 by

that is for the linked list (1930s), so doesn't have 1000 voters, but

5,064 books · 9,230 voters (2010), so some of those decade lists will work easily.

Another way to see, is to go to book of interest, and look at all of the lists for that book. On the list page is a link to all lists for that book. Choosing, for example, the first book on that 2010 list is this page:

https://www.goodreads.com/list/book/1..., where it shows it's position on the list, the number of books on the list, and the number of voters for the list.

Karin Could I confirm Quicksilver? I'm also confirming it on Historical, in case this looks familiar.

It's not in the top 10, so no, it doesn't work. In fact, I couldn't find it (and I have had my coffee!) Is that the correct link ?

I'm afraid I see that as #248 on that list, and the task requires a top 10.

I did too, Karin. However, the book I was looking at fit under Historical, which I had not filled, and still got a combo.

message 32: by Rosemary (last edited May 19, 2017 12:31PM) (new)

Rosemary | 4291 comments Just a heads up. I started out by clicking through my "to read" list and scrolling down to where it says "Lists with this book". But having found a lot of books that were apparently not on any lists at all, then getting to one and thinking "No, that's not possible," and looking another way, I realised that the individual book page only seems to show lists including THAT EDITION of the book. So that's not the best way to search ... unless you only ever add the most popular edition to your "to read".

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14234 comments Yes, listopia is edition specific because some lists are about covers - colors, objects, etc. So, while Rosemary's observation is correct, of course you are not required to read the edition that is on the list.

message 34: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 4291 comments I had better luck going by the Popular Lists method that you posted, Elizabeth! I found these:

Go Ask Alice on https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

A Confederacy of Dunces on https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3...

I see, so if I can find Quicksilver in the top 10 of another list. Got it. I do have it confirmed to read for historical. But I have been working on my sub challenge list, too. I still have a few more books to add. I have been having trouble with finding books on my tbr or other ones I want to read that my library system doesn't have.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14234 comments Here is the page of lists for that book, Karin.

Thanks! How did you find that? I'm new to even finding listopias. Now I can see that it won't make it, but perhaps another book I'm going to read will.

ETA -- I finally figured it out. Wow, was I ever dumb!!!

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14234 comments Karin wrote: "I finally figured it out. Wow, was I ever dumb!!! "

Glad you found it. Not dumb at at all - GR has lots of features and for some it takes years to discover. (At least it did for me.)

Yes, and once you get going, lots of multiple points. As a note, I enjoyed Nancy Horan in the only one I've read. I might pencil that one in for myself.

Britt-Marie Was Here #7
Commonwealth #9

Also, can we borrow from those lists and books already posted if we want to read one of them or do we need to post each request for ourself?

Got these.

Any book already listed is good for the task. You'll need to post again If you want a different book from a list already posted.
