John Seymour Q3 - Question 3. Zhuge Liang (Kongming) is the central protagonist of this volume, and perhaps the entire story and probably the greatest general and scholar. Why does he not seek the empire for himself?

I believe it was offered to him, but he refused it. He is very loyal to the Hans and, hence, would not feel he deserved to assume the imperial mantle. This makes him worthier than Cao Pei and Sun Quan, who have had designs on the title (successfully for Cao Pei).

Perhaps he is content with being the greatest military strategist.
