You did well to find these, Jazzy. It’s good that a treasured collection is being shared by people like you who will appreciate it.

Felicia Allen | 137 comments I found two really pretty box sets. I found one clothbound Jane Austen set that has 6 of her books. The other is a clothbound Bronte sisters set. I also found a really pretty illustrated edition of The One Hundred and One Dalmatians Set - 2 Books

What wonderful additions. Nice that the books have been passed on.

The other aviation books by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry are also great reads.
Southern Mail; Night Flight and Flight to Arras. I have all three that I tend to read every other year.

Your more than welcome!

Anyone can add your favorite photo of your Library or a Library you visited. Even your own personal library of wonderful and beautiful books...they do not all have to be Classics to share!

See message 413 for a link to our Groups Photos!

I am slowly adding an armful of books everyday onto my personal bookshelf. I do not want to overwhelm the home pages of my friends with a mixture of my purchases and Mom's books (mostly Mom's) into my library.

After the actual bookshelves are built, Scott took measurements last Friday and unfortunately got Strep shortly after :( I am hoping just to double check that all my books are logged!

I have found a couple of books from Daphne du Maurier, The House on the Strand and Don't Look Now actually in wonderful condition. Hardcovers of course :)

I retrieved from the mailbox this evening my own copy of The Last Unicorn: The Lost Journey by Peter S. Beagle. This book is Beagle’s original tale, not the one many of us know from the animated 80’s movie and the classic 60’s novel. The copy I found is SIGNED & very worth the $40 I paid for it. One of my library coworkers has read the original tale and told me that it’s weird. I’m excited no matter what.

I added four pictures of my modest library. I hope they are of reasonable quality.

Felicia Allen | 137 comments I found a really cute book online. The Library of Congress has it scanned in and you can read it for free! The book is All Aboard for Wonderland by Helen Ovington Kingsbury. I manually added it to goodreads because they didn't have it. I included the link to the LOC website. I can't search it yet but it said it could take a while for it to be searchable. The link is below.

That’s quite a lovely treat from you to you!

My latest acquisition is a lonesome Everyday Life in Traditional Japan by Charles J. Dunn. First published in 1969 and includes some delightful illustrations, too.

I received in the mail yesterday https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5... it is a beautiful addition. A Heritage Press edition.

Im pretty sure it was Member John Dishwater that reminded me I wanted to find this and add it to my library, Thank you!

With all the additions of my Mom's books to my library I think I will hold out on ordering new books for a while....well except a deal I cant pass up! lol

At the Twig Bookstore I found:

Blue Fire / Black Amber by Phyllis A. Whitney

Graham Greene's The Comedians and

The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers

They only charge a dollar for hardcovers but I always donate more. The volunteer there was telling me that the movie for "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" had Tab Hunter in it. I will have to check it out someday.

message 428: by Jazzy (last edited Jul 11, 2020 12:49PM) (new)

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) My book arrived today!

The Collected Poems of Eugenio Montale: 1925-1977
793pp, it's a brand-new hardcover.

The original price was £49.99, and I got it for £5.68 - Bargain.

The postman says, it looks like you're going to be busy for a while.

While it's a movie worth watching, don't see it expecting Tab Hunter to be in it or you will be disappointed. Unless he has an uncredited role in disguise, he's not in it. The volunteer was either mistaken, confused, or having a little fun with you - that Tab could be the 'lonely hunter.'
Tab is also not in the movie "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter" and neither is Rock Hudson.

Bernard, I had to look up your book, quite interesting.

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) I went into Amnesty Bookshop today and bought From A Crooked Rib (1970) by Somalian author Nuruddin Farah for £2.

In this book Elba, a young Somalian woman, has to fight to retain her identity in a world where women are "sold like cattle."

It is also available digitally from The Open Library
https://openlibrary.org/books/OL22119....

I prefer to shop at the Amnesty Bookshop because it is run by volunteers and all the money goes to Amnesty International. In case you didn't know, Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 7 million people in over 150 countries and territories who campaign to end abuses of human rights.

I cannot remember who was discussing with Bernard about religion history so I did purchase A History of God: The 4,000-Year Quest of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam by Karen Armstrong

I have not ever looked into other religions but I found your discussion interesting enough to look for something.

I hope it was a good choice to start with.

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) I hit the jackpot! this is what I got -

In Search Of Lost Time, Volumes 1 To 6 Boxed Set - The Way By Swann's; In The Shadow Of Young Girls; The Guermantes Way; Sodom And Gomorrah; The Prisoner And The Fugitive; Finding Time Again (2002 Allen Lane Hardbacks)

Listed on this website, second-hand for £378.00
https://biblio.co.uk/book/search-lost...

And the whole set was just £12 from the Amnesty Bookshop!
Great condition. I ran all the way home and started organising my shelves so that they fit and I could admire them. I've already read Books 1 & 2 previously, so will start with Vol. 3.

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) yes! Thank you so much!!

I wanted the 3rd volume, so I looked about in the classics, then asked, Do you have any Proust?

The bookseller says, Proust? Come here, I have something for you!

and there in the NEW ARRIVALS they were, the box set.

Oooh, How much? I inquired.

£12.

I'll take them!! I said quickly and enthusiastically.

They look simply stunning on the bookshelf next to the letters of Sartre and Beauvoir by the way.

Rackham is one of the golden age illustrators.

Bernard Smith | 126 comments Ha ha! I have not seen that word for yonks.

Indeed he is. My paper Alice has pictures by Carroll himself. They are less refined than the ones by Tenniel, but have a surreal quality which fits well with the story.
