FYI, you've finished the best book. Books 4 & 5 were supposed to be one book, but grew out of control. Each only deals with half the characters & expands the world dramatically to the detriment of the action. By the time I finished the 5th, I hadn't really felt as if the characters had advanced much. Certainly not as far as they should have for all the words.

Amen. And books 4 and 5 were actually supposed to be one Prologue to what has become the mythical book 6, but obviously grew WAY out of control.
I assume everyone noticed Game of Thrones is returning to HBO this Sunday. It has an amazing publicity machine; I think it's been promo'd pretty much everywhere.
(BTW, no Emmy for GoT this year; not eligible because HBO didn't run any new episodes in the Emmy's time window.)

I’ve actually enjoyed both the TV and books, especially since they’ve diverged into two different stories.
In my case I saw the first three seasons (on a week-and-a-half binge when Sky was showing 3 episodes a night). Then I gave up all TV episodes to read the books.
Season 1 / Book 1 is where the two most align, but I feel the books are much better. Some of my favourite scenes are with Dany, where the TV show falls massively short. Eg the funeral pyre in Book 1, and the House of the Undying in Book 2.
It was especially important to give up watching any TV episodes when I went back to read the books, avoiding even seeing them listed on Sky’s Guide, because Sky stupidly put spoilers into the brief episode descriptions. Eg, “After the death of XXXXX, the others rally together...” and ruined at least one upcoming surprise for me.
I caught up to TV season 5 after finishing the books. At that point, although the arcs were different, they were at similar points in the story. But by Season 6 the TV series jumped well ahead of the books.
I ultimately chose to watch Seasons 6, then 7, because I figured I’d eventually be hit with inadvertent spoilers if I held out for the books first.
Btw, this is a gripe, but I was always annoyed by the GoT trailers with pending spoilers. Eg, seeing two characters in a scene together, who had never been together previously.

It's never too late, and besides the series isn't over yet.

I'd read the first two books when the HBO series began, and I haven't been back to the books since. At this point, I think I'll watch the final TV season and that'll be it.

I like to collect the entire season on my DVR before I start watching it. That makes it a lot easier for me to keep multiple characters and plot lines straight. But this is not an easy series to avoid spoilers for.

I saw the trailer for the first series and then saw the book collection on sale for £20 in the works.
I bought that, assuming I would then own the series lol 8 years!

I can name a few great books made into tv series/movies and I'm sure you all can name a lot too. But watch the series and tell me and the other many who's watched the HBO GoT series otherwise. Make sure to explain yourself why your book was made into better TV series/movie than GoT.
I've read many books that were turned into movies and tv show. I just read Altered Carbon a few weeks ago and it's on Netflix now. Many here can say it's nothing like the books and I agree but I'm not going to stop watching it. I mention AC just for an example that it's not 20 times near GoT
I read Cloud Atlas book before the movie. The movie didn't do Cloud Atlas any justice. I can name many more examples.
Watch Games Of Thrones. Go on YouTube and watch peoples reaction while they are seeing Game of Thrones. It's that good. If there's a denier about GoT. You're just looking for attention or really don't appreciate the book and hard to turn Game of Thrones into an award winning HBO TV series at all.
If I read otherwise in here that you don't like it. Well, it's not the genre for you. Or plainly clueless to recognize the writer of GoT or the director of GoT

I am obviously a clueless person that spends a lot of time reading a genre that I do not like. thanks for letting me know.
Game of thrones is currently a 3 star book series, the individual books can be brilliant, 1 and 2 are 5 star, ffc is absolutely awful with Cersei being its saving grace. Briennes story is awful and boring.
GRR Martin is good at world building but then falls in love with his books and cant end them so they drag, this is obvious even to a clueless person like me.
Raging on a book forum is not really cricket mate
