Summer is soon here for those of us in the northern hemisphere and I am curious whether any of you will be picking up literature dubbed as summer read.

As for myself the month started slowly for me. So far I have read Mr Make Believe by Beezy Marsh and The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern . This last one took me a week to go through but it was worth it.

I plan to read Borne by Jeff VanderMeer and The Things We Thought We Knew by Mahsuda Snaith next; Every Last Lie by Mary Kubica too if I have time.

Melaslithos | 1645 comments OMG, I can't believe how time has flown! And how I completely missed the start of this month.

Here is Shanghai, if the temperatures are raising, June is also rainy season. So I feel much more like cozying up at home with a nice cup of tea rather than taking a book out on a terrace with some fresh drinks. So summer readings will have to wait for the sun to come back.

This month, for now, I have finished Acceptance and am well on my way to finishing By Love Possessed: Stories.

After that, I have a few books to finish for a few groups/clubs, since I spent too much time on Women Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype the last couple of month. So if I can manage to read the following, I'll be happy:
Le Toit du monde (L'Impératrice de la soie, #1) by José Frèches The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood John Crow's Devil by Marlon James Courrier de Tartarie by Peter Fleming

Sounds like a good plan, hope you manage to read more than less month, and better too!

Is that the last book of the Southern Reach series? What did you think of the whole thing?

Melaslithos | 1645 comments Hi, yes it is!
My favorite book of the trilogy was the second. Each book has a slightly different tonality, which makes it quite interesting.
This third one gives a few answers, but not that much, and I'm still pretty frustrated by the whole series. I like when I get some closure, and I feel here that I didn't.
But it does has a few interesting reflexion about our place in the universe.

I was afraid that would happen, the first book was like that but I had hoped the others would bring more answers. It is still a great universe for sure, I am glad you enjoyed it overall.

I don't recall anymore, is there something called the Company in those books? It exists in the one I am reading now (Borne) and I am wondering if there might be any relation to those books.

Melaslithos | 1645 comments Well, we do get some answers. Not enough for my taste, but some mysteries are revealed.

No, there is no "Company". There is a "Central" and "The Southern Reach", but that's all.

Ah ok, similar enough most likely. I am enjoying this for the most part.

Melaslithos | 1645 comments In the end, I didn't read much more this June, but all books were interesting reads:

By Love Possessed Stories by Lorna Goodison Le Toit du monde (L'Impératrice de la soie, #1) by José Frèches Courrier de Tartarie by Peter Fleming

Regarding this last book, I am still only half way through, lost somewhere in the vastness of the Tsaidam basin. I love this last book, but I'm reading it slowly, savoring it in a slow pace, such as the one of the camel caravans going though the region.

Whoa where the heck did June go :/
I only managed to read two books :'(
Mr Make Believe by Beezy Marsh The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
My favourite was definitely The Night Circus, even though it was a slow burner.
