ForestGardenGal | 232 comments I just realized I have seriously neglected Pulitzer winning books! In fact, I have only read three. So I have made myself a GR shelf for Pulitzer Prize winners so I can easily track my progress!

Nancy | 5 comments FINISHED:
Buried Child by Sam Shepard by Sam Shepard 7713]

Finish date: 28.01.2025
Genre: play
Rating: B+
#Classic

Conclusion:

Buried Child won 1979 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Shepard’s early success made him
an object of envy to his floundering father.
It also made his father an object of guilt to him.

This is one of Shepard’s quartet of family plays.
Each play is an act of both reunion and resolution.
Each play is a witness to Shepard’s violent memories.
Hatred is the only form of intimacy.
"Character is something that can’t be helped,”
...Shepard said. “It’s like destiny. . . ."

Forgetting the injustices and seeming injustices which one suffered from one's parents during childhood and youth must be the major part of...
This part of your review is exactly what Sam Shepard in 'Buried Child' was dealing with. This playwright was formed due to his terrible relationship with his father. Thanks for you great review!

This year I hope to read "Now in November" (1935), "Andersonville" (1956), and "Beloved" (1988). I marked these three with a flower to mark this challenge to myself 🙂"

So.. life got in the way again, and I almost haven't read anything for years. Been through a rough patch health wise and well, there just hasn't been focus or energy for books.

Only one thing to do, jump back in the saddle and try one more time. I have marked the books I have aquired as audiobooks with a flower 🌸, and will try to get even just one of them read in the next three months.

Have also updated the list in message 42 with the newest Pulitzer winners. Also, I've decided to follow Anetq's brilliant example of hiding the long list with the spoiler mark.

Think I will start with one of the newer books and see where it takes me. Hope you're all well by the way, feels like years since I checked up on this group.

Keeping very old threads alive, yay!

Take care of yourself.

Thank you for your concern, Lesle. It's been rough the last four years. Losing my job, getting diagnosed and treated. Fighting my way back slowly but steadily, I'm now about to start a new job in my new line of work here in October. So things are definitely looking up.

That's partly the reason I'm also trying to not set too ambitious goals for my reading, letting myself slowly ease back into it. So far it's going well ☺️

No worries about the reading challenges. Just do what you feel is appropriate for you. Life has to always come first and I am happy that you are getting there. Best wishes to you Anne, sincerely.
