What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

What is the book about? What happens during her "coming of age"? Does she get a boyfriend--fight with her Mum--get a job?

Unfortunately all that I can recall is her love of music, she makes a lot of references to songs. I think she gets along with her mum until her mum gets a boyfriend. Her best friend is a girl and they go to the beach near their house and eat ice cream, and I think have a fight at a school fete about a boy. She has the option at the end of the summer to move back to the city with her dad. Sorry this is all a bit obscure. Forgetting this book has been driving me nuts for years!!!
