We invited eight female literary powerhouses, from Michiko Kakutani to Anna Holmes to Roxane Gay, to help us create an updated list of books everyone should read. Each participant made 10 picks. It's a new year, a new Esquire.com. We're looking forward to reading and we hope you are, too.

My machine was playing games with me so after 8 attempts, i surrendered. However i saw almost 3/4s of the list and was impressed. First of all, i was tickled to see many books i savor. It's always a thrill to know others think well of books i like.

Second, there were a number of authors i've never heard of, which means more goodies in store. That poetry and short story collections were included was also welcome. Thanks for putting the list here, Alias. I'll always know where to find it!
