Paula (paulaan) | 332 comments GR have responded numerous time in the GR Feedback group that users are entitled to use the rating system how they like.

Some people don't use the stars to indicate enjoyment of a book , but as a reminder of which book they want to read first, some people use 1 star to mean fab, 5 to mean crap. The use and meaning of the ratings are subjective to that person.

GR also indicate a number of times to send a link to the user profile and book that has a suspicious rating to the support email if there is no review to flag.

You can search this group and the feedback group for all the other threads about this should you wish

Always interesting to see authors raise this issue time and again, but I never yet seen an author complain about 5-star ratings with no review. Why is that...?

Maybe all 5-stars with no reviews should be marked as suspicious and removed?

Karl Drinkwater (karldrinkwater) Thanks both. My apologies, I should have realised it had already been discussed. I only got invited to join this group today (Goodreads email) but should have done more searches first.

By the way, well done on learning to read hieroglyphics A.W.. I studied Classics and learnt Ancient Greek, which was probably a doddle compared to learning a symbolic language.

Cynthia Vespia (cynv) | 33 comments I was curious about that as well as it recently happened to me. A drive-by 1-star rating with no review. It seemed a little fishy but I just let it go.
