Chris | 72 comments Hello,

Dunno what the hell I'm doing but I'll try lol.

How is everyone liking the book so far? It's pretty short and not especially taxing so I blew through it in a few days, but I don't want to throw out any spoilers for people who are still reading.

Yay! I'm so glad there's a discussion thread!

Chris, no worries about leading the discussion. It sounds like your first post is perfect :)

I've been reading this on the bus the past week, and am nearly done. I really loved it at the beginning, but as I'm getting closer to the end, and it feels like the end is coming plot-wise, I see how many pages are still left and wonder how/why Coelho is dragging it out so far. But I'm not done yet (I should finish in about 12 hours, after my next bus ride), so I'll shut my mouth until I see how it turns out.

Chris | 72 comments I read it because it was one of those "classic" amazing books that everyone recommends, but I felt like it was a let down. The ending felt really abrupt and it seemed like a bunch of really abstract allegories that I found rather annoying. Maybe that's just me though, I don't usually like spiritual books.

I actually felt the opposite, for the most part.

I don't usually like "spiritual" books either, but this didn't feel overly spiritual to me, at least not until toward the end. In my head, it read as a nice fairy tale that could have been about any higher power: sure, it could be God, but also the universe, or fate/destiny, etc. Anything that guides us (either as a guide like "Let me show you" or as a driving force) that we don't understand.

Kelsey | 260 comments I found myself to agree with Chris. Pretty meh. Too much of telling you how I should feel about it causing me to not care. Maybe also too hyped as a must read classic. I was glad it was short...
