Hi, all! I'm the author of a book called "Tainted," an Urban Fantasy about a barista who grows horns and wings and is pulled into a war with Lovecraftian horrors. There is a lot of evil black goop involved, and also coffee. But mostly goop.

Anyway, things with the first novel went reasonably well, so I've been working on the sequel, "Altered." It's been excruciating. I plowed right through the first book since it was an exciting new world, but this is really the first sequel I've done, and it's hard to strike a balance between not leaving new readers out and not having my characters come across like they were stars in Memento. :P

I've got roughly four chapters down so far for 20k words, and I'm shooting for at least 55-60k before I'm done. To make sure it's not coming off the loom crooked, I threw together a quick two chapter sample, ~6500 words:

I've also got an AZW3 and MOBI file, for those of you with a Kindle. Just change the "epub" part accordingly.

Mostly, I'm just looking for moral support. This isn't nearly as easy as it was before, and I want to make sure people can come in cold and not be completely lost. Any readers or feedback are really appreciated. I'm mostly looking for pats on the back to keep me going, but I'm not going to turn down critiques, either. I like complements, but it doesn't help me if the book still sucks when it comes out.

This looks really good! Writing can definitely be hard, but this whole group is here to help you out if you need anything. Sharing samples like that is a great idea. We have tons of helpful threads, so look through anything and check them out. We discuss everything from advertising, to reviews, to how to get more fans.
