Amanda Okay...okay, okay, okay, I literally did not have much time to process this due to non-stop busy.

But...OMYGOSH. KIERA CASS.

I was so mad. I wanted to curse her name when Maxon said he was going to marry America, and then he got furious with her (AGAIN), and THEN Maxon was going to die. AND THEN HE LIVES.

AND THEY GET MARRIED.

So...I got the ending I wanted.

BUT I AM SO MAD ABOUT ALL THE OTHER STUFF.

The rebels. Kriss and America's father are rebels...and it's never elaborated on.

Celeste becomes one of the best characters....AND THEN SHE GETS A BULLET TO THE HEAD.

America finally lets Aspen go and is going to tell Maxon about them...AND THEN MAXON SEES THEM TOGETHER AND GOES BALLISTIC AND THREATENS ASPEN.

And then Maxon almost dies.

AND HE LIVES.

And the King and Queen die...

AND MAXON BECOMES KING.

And America and Maxon GET MARRIED

AND BECOME QUEEN AND KING OF ILLEA.

AND THE CASTES

SHALL BE DISSOLVED.

That is the ending I:
a) expected
b) wanted

BUT NOT IN THE WAY IT WAS EXECUTED.

I don't even know what to say.

Thoughts??? THOUGHTS??? Emotions? Feels?

DISCUSS!

mk Nope you're not the only one.

Everything came out the way I wanted to (well some...) but I was upset because it seemed it was all just rushed.
Like, America didn't have a significant role of being some sort of a hero. She did nothing except help the people gain confidence.

The author just put a bunch of plot twists and turns that either really didn't mean anything much or was just absurd.

I think it could've been waaaay better and more exciting

It was WAY too rushed. EVERYTHING was rushed. I was left feeling unsatisfied, confused, angry, slightly happy, etc...

mk Me too. If America's the protagonist, I wanted her to do something awesome and not just end up with Maxon.

Amanda Kim wrote: "Me too. If America's the protagonist, I wanted her to so something awesome and not just end up with Maxon."

I am super glad she FINALLY ended up with Maxon, but there was no BOOM! No turning point, no major climax...it was just a bunch of events smashed together. The big thing America wanted was the castes dissolved and we found out that's going to happen but...we don't see it occur.

Dramapuppy I liked most of the ending to this book. I just wasn't a big fan of Celeste. Her character development felt rushed and unrealistic.

I actually ended up really liking her. Now that I think about it, yes, her character development was a bit rushed but I think it was legit.

Amanda CHRISTINE IS THE BEST: http://youtu.be/ACc7d9DQLbY

Amanda The biggest shockers:
1. Anne loves Aspen.
2. Anne dies.
3. Aspen finally tells America he doesn't love her anymore.
4. Aspen falls deeply in love with Lucy.
5. Mary is the only maid left for America.
6. Celeste dies after becoming one of the most liked characters.
7. The Queen and King die within a few pages.
8. Maxon LIVES and becomes King.
9. Maxon decides to marry America.
10. Castes will be dissolved, starting at Eight.
11. Kriss is a Northern rebel (never elaborated on)
12. America's father dies.
13. America's dad was a Northern rebel

Amanda IT'S LIKE KIERA CASS WANTED A SLAUGHTER-FEST.

She kills:
1. America's dad.
2. Anne.
3. Celeste.
4. Queen Amberly (I wanted to throw the book)
5. King Clarkson (FINALLY WE ARE RID OF HIM)
6. ALMOST kills Maxon
7. Micah (minor character but still sad)

mk I think the plot was good enough but if she added more detail, it would've been a great ending

True...she glossed over so many things.

I totally agree with you! it is the ending i wanted but not that way! it's like everything is forced, i don't know i would have wanted to read more about what will happen in that dystopian world... and America's father is a rebel, great, what does that bring to the story?! i mean there was so many interesting things, and then when put together, they just didn't make any sense. And the weird thing was, i just couldn't put that book down!

Krystal Galindo I really wish she'll suprise us with another book, i mean i wanted to know more, i wanted to know how they were going to change their world with the castes, and everything. I really wish it would've been someone other then celeste that died. I have so many feelings towards this books and questions.sighhh.

If there was another book, I would read it but I feel like it would be tacked on. The story was about the Selection. America won. Yay. More books would be bordering on being a spinoff series. They're going to try removing the castes and that's all we need to know.

Yeah your right. But i hate being left hanging lol

That sums up what I thought of the book

Me neither!! I could NOT stop reading these books! And now that I have had more time to process the series in full I realize just how truly ridiculous/pointless these books are and yet I ENJOYED them.

Amanda Krystal wrote: "I really wish she'll suprise us with another book, i mean i wanted to know more, i wanted to know how they were going to change their world with the castes, and everything. I really wish it would'v..."

I'm not so sure about another book but YES she TOTALLY left us hanging without any clear answer except the face that Maxon and America get married and become King and Queen!

Amanda Bd wrote: America's father is a rebel, great, what does that bring to the story?! i mean there was so many interesting things, and then when put together, they just didn't make any sense. And the weird thing was, i just couldn't put that book down!

YES! Yes, yes, yes, yes, I totally agree. We find out America's dad and Kriss are rebels...AND NOTHING MORE BECOMES OF THAT. And then what ever becomes of the rebels? What ever becomes of the country? Seriously, I'd be scared living in a country run by Maxon and America. I love Maxon, but he admits himself (THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE TRILOGY) that he's bad at planning wars/listening at meetings/etc and that his father thought he wasn't ready (even though he was just a jerk). And then America can't hold onto a decision she makes for more than 10 pages!!

Amanda AND WHAT ABOUT THE WAR IN NEW ASIA!?

Totally true! i think Kiera should write a sequel, that would be nice, though the fact that she didn't write it all in this book is kind of disappointing. I guess we can all agree that this is far from being the best book we've read this year :D

Jayne totally agree! I wanted this ending but the entire series i wanted the rebels to be elaborated on the world to be biult better and deaper but instead the enitre series ended up being very shallow. Not that I didn't like it, I just didn't like the simplicity of it

Dramapuppy Jayne wrote: "totally agree! I wanted this ending but the entire series i wanted the rebels to be elaborated on the world to be biult better and deaper but instead the enitre series ended up being very shallow. ..."

I did like the simplicity. I'm actually really glad they didn't elaborate. It's the kind of thing I might have been interested to know and I'd certainly read an author Q and A about it. However, I feel like if Cass had added it to the end of her book or written a sequel, it would have felt tacked on and boring. She won, that was the end. A long epilogue might have been okay but I like that Cass didn't feel obligated to tell us the finishing details about EVERYTHING. She tied up her story.

I agree with you, I was so happy that they ended up together but it was so rushed at the end and there wasn't a whole lot of detail but I still loved it!

Megan Lyss ***DISCLAIMER: I LOVE THE SERIES I'M JUST ON A RANT***

Really-- I did like it. Here I'm just talking about what I didn't like. There were plenty of things I loved about it. Please don't kill me.

I agree completely. I thought the deaths all at the end were unrealistic and most were unnecessary. Celeste's character arch was awesome and then she died without it contributing to the plot/America's arch because we were just beginning to like her, but didn't LOVE LOVE her. The Queen dying was unnecessary, proven by the fact that it is mentioned like once and never even dwelled on. America drove me crazy with the whole 'I love him but I don't want to tell him' thing. She literally saw Marlee scream to the point of scarring America because of having an affair and then she turns right around and makes out with Aspen. URGGHHH!
She also walks in on Maxon with Celeste making out and throws a temper tantrum when that's what Maxon is supposed to be doing. It's the whole point of the freaking selection! Then, all the while being awful to Maxon, she does the same thing even though it's against the law!
At least in the end it all worked out and we had our happy ending, but if she had just said at the beginning of The Elite that she loved him, this all could have been avoided.
I do agree that there are a lot of loose ends as well. I want to know about the war with New Asia. I want to learn about the history. I want to learn about the rebels and I want to learn about Maxon's rule. So many interesting things were touched on and never explained. I think we need a novella.

Yes I love Christine! I haven't clicked the link, but I'm assuming you mean Riccio.
