Okay. So I remember reading an excerpt from a shifter book. It was definitely part of a series. There was insta-mate kind of attraction. And the first encounter took place in a Coffee Shop or Cafe. I kind of remember somebody getting shoved and the heroine having a sassy mouth. But I can't remember anything else and I've been having hell trying to find it. If anyone has an idea what book this might be please give me a recommendation!

Stray is also the first of a good shifters series, though I don't think it's the one you're looking describing. It's been a while since I read it but I don't remember a coffee shop/cafe scene.

It almost sounds like Feral Sins by Suzanne Wright.

I don't think it's any of those. I'm pretty sure the heroine is a human. But those recs look really interesting, so I'll read them too :) Thanks!

The only thing I can think of is Talin and Clay's story I remember confrontation between them.
