Greetings all--here's a discussion topic for the first 75 pages of IJ, to be finished by June 28. What are your thoughts? Good luck!

Doug Frank | 6 comments The footnotes about James Incandenza's filmography is one of my favorite moments. It is one of the more significant plot points and a unique use of character development. The small hints about the dynamic between the father and sons is wonderfully provided. I have also enjoyed working out the timeline with the subsidized years. Finally, the allusions to Hamlet so far are nice details for my second time through the novel.

A great note. I enjoy the crazy ways the films reflect on real or perceived narratives later in the book.

If you're looking for. Good place to stop around page 75, I'd recommend finishing the section on Gompert's depression. It's a really haunting passage that reflects writings DFW has done on his own depression.

Kathleen | 1 comments I started late but hope to catch up by early August. Reading the earlier comments makes me feel like I should reread the filmography.
