his thread is where you can chat about all things PIFM, ask questions and once books have been read, review your selected reads. A complete free for all.

PLEASE NOTE:

PIFM is meant to be FUN and not to be taken seriously. I would appreciate it if all participants just chilled and not get worked up about voting, who votes, who doesn't, etc. Please bear in mind that some will just want to vote, many don't come on everyday and most of us have time constraints. I just want a relaxed approach to it all and for you all to just enjoy the process! I'd really appreciate your courtesy in this matter. Thanks.

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Agnieszka, you have placed your list on the wrong thread. It took me a minute to figure out what happened.

message 4: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Kirsten, you did the same thing. Aren't we suppose to place our lists on the Pick It For Me thread. Please don't confuse me....I am confused enough already.

message 5: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Oops! Well, I think I'll blame Agnieszka since she did it first.

Patricia, I've asked Agnieszka if she can move her post to the right thread. To avoid confusion for everyone. I'm sure she will when she realises. It was probably the shock 😲 of my promptness that threw her off!! 😉 😀 😁

message 7: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Janet, that is hysterical. Thank you for your special explanation.

Sorry once again for the mix-up. As soon as I've seen it I moved it, and then seen your message :-)
No worries - no shock (yet?) - only bone tired - it was already after midnight and I wasn't able to sleep an entire night for almost three months now.
This year we had our first heat wave in March(!) and last week it was almost 40°C (~100F) for two or three days. Each night I have to decide if I'm prefering heat (up to 30°C =~85F in my flat) or noise. I'm living next to the main artery though Offenbach (especially loved by bikers or people having cars with much power who love to rev them up middle in the night & used by most of the ambulances and police cars), next to a drawbridge, above a casino (they use the cellar in our house and bring their glass bottles each night there around 2 a.m. during the week and 4 a.m. weekends) and opposite of local meeting point of the drunks and alcoholics as well as an house full of inconsiderate people making party each night (during the week until about 4 a.m. and up to 7 a.m. on their three-day-weekends).
Almost forgot the doves on my balcony. This year I lost the battle - I gave up the day I discovered a nest with two eggs in it (all done before 8 a.m.). Now the four are starting their days around 4 a.m. and have fun doing it :-( I hope they will move soon and the same day I'll install a protective net around the railing.
Luckily my downstairs neighbors are on vacation or their child finally (after almost years) stopped to cry several times each night.

Life's one big party - I just have to join it. Who needs sleep ;-)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 1462 comments Patricia,

I can't decide between A Foolish Consistency & Bright Side and hope I can help with a tie in a few weeks :-)

No worries about posting in the wrong place. These things happen! And please everyone don't feel pressured into betting your books and selections up. Just because I'm being organised (for a change!! 😉) doesn't mean that you guys have to be super quick. Enjoy at your own pace and have fun..... always!! 😉 😀 Tis the name of the game people!!

I got it right - I just needed to vent (I know I'm not very nice when I'm so tired)

Oh gosh, don't worry about it at all. Vent away.... life gets difficulty at times and talking about it can help. Don't ever feel bad about venting or wanting to go talk. We're friend's here and there support is there when needed. It's what I love about this group.

message 13: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale I'm not posting my new list today. I don't know if I'll feel like coming back to the library after I see my nephrologist today. Today's gonna be my last visit to this particular nephrologist because he is leaving the Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation on the 25th of this month and I don't have a replacement yet.

message 14: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 1126 comments Sorry to hear that your nephrologist is leaving, Amber. I hope his replacement is a good one :)

Patricia - I loved Bright Side, I really didn't think I would. I'm not overly sentimental when I read but this is one of the very few books that actually made me cry.

Perri - I've had Truly Madly Guilty on my Kindle for ages and must get round to reading it!

Sophie, you have made some good recommendations in the past so I will definitely read Bright Side even if it doesn't win.

message 16: by Ann (new)

Ann Girdharry (anngirdharry) | 313 comments Agnieszka, a heat wave and no sleep - no wonder you need to vent and this is as good a place as any :)

message 17: by Ann (new)

Ann Girdharry (anngirdharry) | 313 comments Does anyone have any stand-alone Tess Gerritsen favourites? Or should I begin with a start of series? Any recommendations?
thanks x

message 18: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) | 623 comments I've never read her stand-alones, but I started reading the Rizzoli & Isles series this year and I really like it!

message 19: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments I have read Harvest and The Bone Garden. I enjoyed both. She is an outstanding writer.

message 20: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis I have loved every one of her stand alones.
Her earlier books (like 80's and early 90's) are totally cheesy romances so beware, unless you are looking for that.

message 21: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Thanks, Sophie.

message 22: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) | 623 comments I am going to have to try those two next... I love how she incorporates more medical aspects than the typical thriller, especially unique since she is a doctor

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 1462 comments Ann wrote: "Does anyone have any stand-alone Tess Gerritsen favourites? Or should I begin with a start of series? Any recommendations?

My very first by Tess Gerritsen (and so far the only I really enjoyed) was Call After Midnight.
It's like a blend of Moriarty and espionage-thriller with it - there's some drama, deception and of course romance but all in all very enjoyable if somehow predictable.

Romanticbookworm | 43 comments Posted my list and choices to the August thread :)

I enjoyed Harvest too and Life Support and Bloodstream

message 27: by Aesaan (new)

Aesaan (highlycaffeinatedreader) | 163 comments I just updated my votes for this month. Some choices don't make a difference, still I have to go with my pick.... This was yet another round of tough choices I had to make, possibly the toughest :)

message 28: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (penn_y_lane) | 547 comments Thanks Aesaan it looks like I have a clear winner The Bat (Harry Hole, #1) by Jo Nesbø which I am happy about as I read Blood on Snow (Blood on Snow, #1) by Jo Nesbø recently and really enjoyed it so am looking forward to this series.

message 29: by Romanticbookworm (new)

Romanticbookworm | 43 comments Mandy - I have that one on my tbr too.

I also think I have a clear winner and I am glad as well as the book is on my kindle :)

message 30: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) | 623 comments Looks like I will be reading Fractured, if anyone is interested in continuing on with this series after our Triptych discussion :)

message 31: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Back from Vacay - was so terrific to be with family but so nice to be back home!

Dana, I'd be interested in Fractured-remind me towards the end of the month.

Romantic BW, I tried Burial Rites and just couldn't get into it. Did you like it at first or should I have kept reading?

Looks like When Breath Becomes Air for me, I'm surprised

message 32: by Aesaan (new)

Aesaan (highlycaffeinatedreader) | 163 comments For me its a tie between 'Magpie Murders' and 'Beartown', also there is a third place tie between 'Sleeping Giants' and 'The Twelve Lives of Samuel Hawley'

message 33: by Ann (last edited Jul 11, 2017 02:13AM) (new)

Ann Girdharry (anngirdharry) | 313 comments I have a tie between "Red Blood, Yellow Skin" and "Surviving the Angel of Death".

Both look like great choices - though, Perri, you're right - it will be a heavy read - I think that's why I left it until the summer because somehow sitting in the sun makes it easier...

(By the way, I'm looking for a couple of beta-readers for my new crime/suspense/thriller "London Noir". It's at a first draft stage so if anyone is interested in giving me their absolutely honest feedback please direct message me for info/with questions - I'd be really grateful for your views, thanks :) )

message 34: by Agnieszka (last edited Jul 11, 2017 03:20AM) (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 1462 comments I have a clear winner as well Deceptive Cadence (The Virtuosic Spy, #1) by Kathryn Guare has as many votes as all the other books together and I'm looking forward to start this series soon.

Perri, I love the way you put it in the vote section "a riddle wrapped in a mystery" made me lough - thanks!

Buddy read anyone for The Bat in August ?

message 36: by Janet , Moderator (new)

Janet | 5303 comments Mod
Yep, I'm up for that. It's a series that's been on my radar for a while. ☺️

message 37: by Aesaan (new)

Aesaan (highlycaffeinatedreader) | 163 comments I would also be able to do a buddy read for The Bat

message 38: by Romanticbookworm (new)

Romanticbookworm | 43 comments I have a weeks holiday coming up in August so I am sure I can fit the bat in. Cant promise to finish it in the month.

Im way behind on PIFM reads still need to read June eek

You are not the only one. I started my June book only two weeks ago and it's not my main book so I'm not even half way through :-)

message 41: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments I am reading one of my July books. Since there was a tie I have decided to read both. Also, I promised a friend that I would read The Gargoyle Hunters since he lives and works in New York. Then, I am supposed to mail it to him.

I am way behind again too, still reading my June book and not half way yet. But buddy reads do tend to spur you on 😀😆

message 43: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Yeah, I'm thinking my June dog book is going back into my TBR pile. I've got too many other good books ready to read.

message 44: by Agnieszka (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 1462 comments Since I decided to squezze in Ann's books for July I'll postpone my July book into August. So far it looks like I'll have only one book for next month and two books I should be able to manage next month with ease :-)

message 45: by Agnieszka (last edited Jul 14, 2017 10:16AM) (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 1462 comments Life's so unfair! Two month after the publication of the latest Eve Dallas* book the online library finally accepted to buy it and sent a notification it will be available soon. I checked each day several times and yesterday - the only day this week I had appointments and wasn't able to check as often as I wanted - it finally arrived. By the time I got online there was already a waiting list (15 people were faster than me) and I will get the book most likely end of the year(!) though I shouldn't complain that much - I checked right now again and the next one has to wait until November, next year. Since our local library ordered it as well I'm really concidering to get the paper book - though it could be end of the year as well (current status - ordered) grrrrrrrr. By then the next one will be translated and it all starts again *pout*.
I wish so much all book loves could have untimited funds to make the world a happier place and of course a possibility to stop time as soon as we start reading ;-) *dreamy look*
OK, enough venting for today *sigh*

*German series name for the In Death books

I get 99% of my books from the library too, so I feel your vent!

message 48: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Sorry to hear you're losing your doctor, Amber. I do hate breaking a new doctor in.

message 49: by Amber (last edited Jul 17, 2017 08:58AM) (new)

Amber Martingale Thanks Kristen. Also loosing my orthopedist because he's associated with St. Elizabeth's Hospital here in Belleville and St. E's is severing ties to my insurance company this coming Sunday (the 23rd) because the State of Illinois hasn't bothered paying hospital bills in two years.

http://www.steliz.org/
http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/il...

The loss of St. E's from my insurance means if I need to use the St. E's ER in O'Fallon, I will likely have to pay out of pocket and that's a bill I can't (bleeping) afford! So insteead, I'll likely have to go to Memorial (on the OTHER end of Belleville from my apartment) OR Touchette...in Centreville!

https://www.memhosp.com/
and http://www.touchette.org/If I have to go to Centreville, I have to get their shuttle service, a med cab OR a BUS home to Belleville and I'm NOT familiar enough with the bus schedules or the neighborhood to be waiting for a damned bus at like 4 o'clock in the damned morning...especially not come winter!

message 50: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) God, I hate when a hospital has a fight with an insurance company. It doesn't just affect one thing... Kennewick General had a fight with Group Health one year and it didn't affect my doctor... but it did affect labs, diagnostics, prescriptions... What a pain!!!!
