Spectre Umbra | 9 comments so I noticed that this series is possibly drawing to conclusion. I have always wanted to read these but in what order should I ? which books are must reads and which are some that may be good but don't impact the world and could potentially be skipped ? thanks for any tips everyone.

Cat | 344 comments Generally each trilogy is self-contained - I mean there are references that will make sense if you're reading them in order, but you wouldn't have to.

For example, Word and Void trilogy can definitely be read as separate (I haven't actually it yet but I know it was originally thought to be a separate series altogether) buuuut, I did read the Genesis of Shannara trilogy and kinda wish I'd read the Word and Void first.

Here's Terry Brook's suggested order for new readers:

My personal favourite is the Voyage of the Jerle Shannara trilogy but I wouldn't say it impacts on the world that much. It's just fun feel-good questing!

Unlikely. Brooks has been flogging this series for four decades, and has declared "last Shannara book" half a dozen times in the past.

C. Scott Kippen (skippen) He is "ending" the series in that the chronology is ended (I was at a talk with him). Once this series is done, he said he may go back and write and in fill in gaps (more in the Genesis era), more places fans/he thinks could be filled out more, but he may do other projects after this 4 book series is done first.
