Peter | 36 comments This might be the wrong group to ask this in, but I'm a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of groups, and I'm not sure how to find a more appropriate one.

I'm looking for a good way to choose books in Borrowbox on my ipad. I've been browsing the genres, opening books to see if they sound interesting. But this is getting tedious, because each time I finish a book and start looking for another one, I find myself checking through the same books as last time. Surely there's a better way.

I think this perhaps is the wrong group Peter - but having said that, I think there are others in the group who use Borrowbox (I don't) who may be able to help you. So hang in there and hopefully a few people can give you advice :)

Kathryn | 3569 comments I do use Borrowbox, Peter - I even went looking for a new audiobook on Borrowbox last night!! And I agree it is a little tedious. I belong to 2 libraries and they both use Borrowbox as well as Overdrive for digital books.

I find the Overdrive system a little more user-friendly as they have better filtering options and the ability to add books to your "wishlist", so that when you log in next time, you can check your wishlist and see if any of the books you've saved on there are available. It's a shame that Borrowbox doesn't have this function.

The only workaround I've found for this is to keep a Word document, or a list in a notebook somewhere when you find books on Borrowbox that you like but don't want to borrow at that time... Or, if you're using Borrowbox associated with a library, and your library has the ability to save books to a list (both my libraries do), you could save those books in a list on your library account (although that's pootentially a bit more work).

And all that still won't prevent you scrolling through lists of books that you'd seen before last time you were on the site. However something that might help is in the tabs up the top. When you are looking for books on Borrowbox, up the top of my page (hopefully yours is the same!), it has tabs with Start > eAudiobooks | eBooks and you select which you want, then below that is All | Adult | Young adult | Childrens and you select which you want, and then underneath that, it has options Featured | New Releases | Top Downloads | New to library | All Releases. If you select "New Releases" or "New to Library", I would guess these should be updated fairly regularly, so you should see newly added books there from time.

And, you probably already know this, but also up in this section is a little check box "Show only available titles" which I like to tick when I'm wanting a book right away - no point then looking at books that aren't available then and there!!

I hope this gives you a few ideas, although I'm sorry I didn't have any great flashes of brilliance to impart!

Happy reading - once you find suitable books!!

marlin1 | 422 comments I agree with Kathryn above, at least Overdrive has a wish list.

The only thing extra I have is a shelf here for 'Borrowbox wishlist', otherwise I'd forget what was there too.

Peter | 36 comments Keeping a list is a good idea. If I was to work my way through, making a big list to read in one hit then it would at least reduce the number of times I end up reading the same book descriptions.

I've discovered I can log into Bolinda directly via my library's website, and search there. One of my libraries has an advanced search there, but the other doesn't, don't know why. It doesn't really add much, but I think there are more genres.

I haven't looked at Overdrive yet. It's a pity books have to be split across several services. And I wish there were more old titles.

I suppose it's actually easier browsing ebooks than real books at the library. At least I can see the whole cover, not just the spine, before I open it for a look.

Peter | 36 comments I've just changed my subscription to this thread from instant to daily, in the hope that I will no longer see this at the bottom of the notifications:
"You will not get another email about this discussion until you visit it on Goodreads."

Does that fix it? I've had the same thing, which I hate, on bulletin boards I'm on, and it fixes it there.

I'm not sure, Peter. I don't get emails because it clutters up my inbox too much, so I only get notifications on GR. Hope it works for you :-)

Peter | 36 comments Yes, it seems to have worked. The downside is that I only get notifications once a day.
