Rachel CaineRoxanne Longstreet Conrad, the slightly insane (and very tired) author of a bunch of books, including paranormal fiction, mystery, suspense, science fiction, romance, and young adult novels. Oh, and she also writes short stories. And essays.

She has also published as:
Roxanne Longstreet
Roxanne Conrad
Julie Fortune
Ian Hammell

After reading Ink and Bone, I was hooked on the Great Library Series. I looked for another series and found The Morganville Vampires; I love this series also! (I started this one late and have only read through #11 and this time, but will finished all of them!) I know these are very different story lines but both are great.

1) To me the Morganville Vampires are unique. Where did you get the inspiration for this story line? Is Daylighters the end of the series?

2) Being a book nerd, of course I love The Great Library! This is very different and very enjoyable. Will "Ash and Quill" end the series or do you have more in store for us?

3) I look forward to discovering more of your books. What is your favorite book or series you have written? What was the most fun to write?

Thanks for taking time to talk with us!!

Gosh I had no idea how many books you have written! Amazing! I've read the first 2 books in the Great Library series and my question is really around how you get your inspiration for an idea to write, and do you start off with the whole series in mind, or do you adjust it as the series is published?

I absolutely love your Great Library series and I'm crazy excited that you have other series I can explore. Which series have you enjoyed writing the most, so far? And will there be any new series in the near future?

I've recently started the Morganville Vampire series and I am enjoying it.
1.) Can you tell us how your first book came to be published? What was the process?
2) Who is your favorite author(s)?
3) What types of books do you enjoy reading when you have time to read?

I've never had the pleasure to read a book by you, what book do you suggest I start with?

Hi, Reading Ink and Bone and now starting Paper and Fire, I am in love with your writing and I am sure I will read more in future.

I am curious though why you chose to write under so many Pen Names? Doesn't it make it harder for people to find your books?

Dear Rachel,
I have recently started reading Ink and Bone and it literally took my breath away from page one.
I am a big fan of books about books/libraries and would like to know if you have a favourite book/series about books-and-or libraries?

Midu Hadi | 2744 comments Hi! Can non-team members also ask questions?

Edited: Thanks, Karen! Okay, adding the question here so I don't take more space!

Q: What kind of research did you have to do for the Weather Warden series? I loved it but I also remember there being a technical side to it.

Rachel. I have LOVED in completion all of the series I have read (Weather Warden, Outcast, Morganville, Revivalist), but the Revivalist and Weather Wardens have stood out in my heart for many years. I know that you are working on amazing new things and I am just now getting into the excitement of the great library.

Will there be any future additions to the Weather Wardens/Outcast Series? I know it was kind of closed but there is SO much that can still happen. I also would love to see a weather warden off shoot that was located with wardens from outside of the US and see if they had the same coordination or different powers.

Additional Question: I'd like a 5 or10 years later or something book from the Revivalist. You know evil can't let a drug like that go away forever! In your writers mind will this ever happen?

message 24: by Trinity (new)

Trinity Non-team member.

I honestly had no idea of how many books you published! And after reading what everyone was talking about ^ I'm definitely going to be starting the Revivalist soon.

Morganville Vampires is one of my top favorite series and I loved every single book. My question for you is: did you ever think you would write 15 books for this series? How did this story come to you with these amazing characters. Myrnin was always a favorite of mine, and Shane *swoon*.

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions, I'm excited to see your responses!

I'me enjoying my first Rachel Caine book...Ink and Bone...I love the title and how you've established the characters...I don't typically read this genre but after reading your short story intros...I decided to give book #1 a try,

The characters are so diverse...I'm wondering if you have a favorite? When you establish your characters do you picture a particular person in your mind or does something else inspire you?

Thank you!

Rachel (or should I say Roxanne) ~

Do you think it is difficult to write YA fantasy/paranormal? The reason I ask is that there are SO many worlds and characters and themes already created and held dear among die-hard fans. I would personally find it difficult to write without being influenced unconsciously or not by the glut of fantasy I have already read. Do you not have that problem? It doesn't seem so; your stories are very original.

Do you have any say in the book jacket art? I really love how you see flames on the side flaps while you're reading Ash and Quill.

Among your books/series, which would you recommend that a reader begin with. Let's say: your all-time favorite, never-gets-old comfort book.

Thank you for your service ;)
Sincerely,
Christine
