I don't recall a field you can fill in for genre on a book here. It's been a long time since I added one of my books to Goodreads. Generally, I just let them do it themselves. I suppose you could add the genre in the description of your book, if you wanted.

ok... just that goodreads does have genres and very detailed ones at that, and thousands of books in each one... just dont know how that gets decided cause I never got the chance to :0)
I sent a note asking a librarian about it so maybe they will get back to me
I believe that on GR, genres are based on how people shelve it and probably has some minimum threshold for a genre to appear. (It obviously skips the base "TBR", "read" and "currently reading" shelves.)
I keep looking this over and I am finding lists of books in certain genres, and, of course, there is a way to list your genres in your profile (which I learned today you don't have to go with their fairly generic list). I'm still not seeing any way to mark one's book as being a certain genre. It would be nice if we could.

I wasn't sure where this questioned belonged. I'm sorry if it's already been asked. I looked but didn't find what I was looking for. It's a very simple question. I published my first book on CreateSpace. Some people told me my book "might" automatically upload to GoodReads, some said I "might" have to manually add it, and some said not to manually add it because if CreateSpace adds it later there will be two entries. It's been 7-8 days since I published it.
Should I manually add the book, and if so how long should I wait before manually adding it?
Thank you for your time.

I'm not aware of CreateSpace adding books to Goodreads automatically. A quick Google search didn't bring up anything either. If you want to be 100% sure, I would reach out to Customer Service on CreateSpace and/or a Goodreads Librarian. However, I have used CreateSpace for all of my paperbacks and have always uploaded my work manually to Goodreads. Hope this helps! Thank you. :)

Hi Alison,
Do you mean you're offering up a service? If that's the case, that will have to be listed on our ShowCase group (PM me if you'd like that link) or you can advertise on our website or in our newsletter.
Please let me know if I've misunderstood.
Thank you!

Ashley Marie,
I've yet to successfully enter the world of print copies, but I can tell you that when I publish ebooks on Amazon, they do automatically add on Goodreads. It generally takes about a week. If you don't see your book by then, you may want to add it yourself.
I used to jump the gun and add them right away on here, which often resulted in combining editions and often resulted in things getting messed up and contacting librarians.
Not sure if that's any help...

Thank you! Based on what you said, I went ahead and added it! For some reason the cover photo didn't upload, but hopefully I can get that sorted. :)

Createspace and Google are separate entities
I do realize that William :) I was simply searching the Internet to see if anyone had any advice on that topic.

I'd like some feedback on a basic personally compiled Video to highlight my first book. The link is to my Amazon profile page.Is this allowed and where would I post please ?
Many thanks for your Overlord work
Well, if Ann wants to override my answer, she can. I'm gonna say no. There's no way to embed a video. It would have to be linked and we don't allow links. We don't have a video workshop, either.

follow tge rules to create you author thread and you can post on that one. Also, not all goodreads groups forbid links. You might find some that have no objection.
Hi there Wayne. It depends on the type of question it is. We have several folders that include different topics. If you can find a folder that suits your topic, that would be best. You can always message me if you need additional assistance. Thanks!

I have just posted "The Writer's Tarot" under your resources thread. Would it be possible to pin on your pinterest board?

I see I broke the very last rule of your site. Sorry. Got it now.

There was. The librarian who started it promptly disappeared after about 3 questions. Goodreads has a group specifically for asking librarians questions.

You posted in a thread that was marked "moderators only" and was also marked that we're no longer using that folder. Also, your post was self-promoting and included several links. So, yes, the very last rule and then some.

There's a detailed guide on the Goodreads FAQ so the easiest would be if a moderator shared link to that.
Anyway, shorter version as best as I remember it:
Step one: Make sure the name you display on Goodreads is EXACTLY the same as on the book itself.
Step two: wait for it to be added on Goodreads (there's usually some delay) or add it manually (look into the Goodreads FAQ on how to do it)
Step three: on the book's page will be something like "i am the author" or "this is my book" or something along these lines. You click that, go through the procedure and wait for the process to be confirmed (probably one or two business days).
You should get a confirmation mail when it's done.

Do you have any suggestions about building a website? I am not computer illiterate, however, I am not a website designer by any stretch of the imagination. Should I hire a professional? I have looked at some of the most highly recommended web builder sites but they have very few templates for authors. I would appreciate any advice.

OK, I'll check that one out and get back with you.
Thanks. I looked at wordpress but not the others. I will look at it.
Does anyone have any information on a reviewer called BooksMaster? When I googled it, something came up from Liberia. His name is Doug and he wants to review my book. Sure don't want to get scammed.
