Chloe Umbridge. No question.

message 152: by Epeedoug (new) - added it

Epeedoug I think the worst character in the harry potter series is Dobby. My rational for this is that he was to trusting and at times annoying.

Malfoy. The whole lot of them. Draco, Mummy and Lucius! I guess you can throw Narcissa in there as well, being she was a Malfoy before she was a Lestrange. Though I have to say, you need villains as good (bad) as these to help the story unfold and strengthen the plot. I hate them all and love that they were there! Cheers to Rowling.

I know Kreacher can be pretty hard to love, but in the later books he changed a lot. He had only been angry and rude because his main examples in life were the Blacks (except Sirius). Once Harry, Ron, and Hermione showed Kreacher real love and respect, he changed to be the opposite of what he was taught to be and changed to WANT to help them. The book even says that Harry was sad to leave him to continue on his hunt for Horcruxes.

Migroude 1. Dolores Umbridge
2. Bellatrix Lestrange
3. Draco Malfoy
4. Percy Weasley
5. Kreacher (but he is loyal)

Oh my god, how can you not like Snape?

Celeste Zaphan wrote: "You know what now that I think about it and i don't think anybody mentioned it......Maybe Kreacher?"

Sorry but Kreacher was a lovely elf at the end. Definitely one of my favourite characters in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
I still can't get over the fact that he was waiting for Harry, Ron and Hermione, dinner ready, and they never came back.
Kreacher deserved better.

Celeste In my opinion, the worst character BY FAR is Rita Skeeter. I can't stand her. And it became worst in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows when she wrote Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore. Even though most of her facts were right, she told them in a way so as to make everyone hate Dumbledore. I mean, he's not one of my favourite characters but he wasn't that bad. Rita just wrote about him as if he was worse than Voldemort.
Anyways, she was a lier, a fame seeker. Unbearable since the first paragraph she appeared.

Wow, never thought that someone who read could be THAT simple. Real friends don't get jealous? Yeah? Try to be a poor guy who happens to be the best friend to the most famous person in your world. Also, that stupid fight is your proof to say that Ron was evil and you hated him the MOST? OUT OF HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF EVIL CHARACTERS!? Wow... you are so stupid! Like sorry but....you really are.

Really good point! She was downright nefarious. The evil characters were evil, and you get it. Good and evil, blah blah. But Rita, she was sneaking around for personal gain, trying to get that big story, but it was all self-serving. She wasn't committed enough to be evil, but she was definitely a pest...

I think Snape is a great character, albeit you don't like him. I think I'll always like Snape more than he deserves because of Alan Rickman. I don't actually like him because of his love of Lily- it is more how incredibly brave he was to be inside Voldemort's inner circle while still playing for Dumbledore. I mean, he can't go around being super nice in Hogwarts, it would ruin the illusion as well. And, he is just a cranky person.

Umbridge- as much as I hate her as a person, still a good character. Percy is just useless.

I agree, Erin. It's not Snape's love for Lily that endures me to him, it's his bravery. Although - I too am a cranky person, so maybe THAT'S what truly endures me to him lol...

Migroude Severus Snape, Aberforth, Bellatrix, Lucius Malfoy, Peter Pettigrew

I know I am quoting an old comment, but YES! Maybe because we deal with Harry Potter through the series so much we have more chances to see his lack of actual development as a human. Blindly trust this person or blankly hate another person and then just refusing to budge on whatever he thinks, no matter what logical explanation has been given to him. Harry Potter is pretty lame, but alas it is 'his' story.

Of course antagonists like Umbridge suck, but you never really expected change from characters like her...

Sam Dolores Umbridge all the way. She was always so mean to the students and she just has a face you want to punch. You know what I mean????

Nabilah Safira I hate Dobby on the second book. But, it's the kind of hate that makes sense to me, because their acts, no matter how annoying it is, kick some punches to the story. This is for all the characters that I hate/dislike in HP, except for Ginny, who happened to be a big deal in later part of the story.
Hate might be a strong word, but I do hate her because she felt insignificant to the story. I also rejected the idea of her romantic entanglement with Harry, since I always see Hermione as a more potential suitor to Harry. I'd rather have Harry married someone completely anonymous, or a character unknown to me before, rather than someone that scarcely appear for the whole series.
I get that if Rowling wants to develop a secret crush of sort for their love line, but in a world so complex like HP, as much as the trio, giving the main character someone that I know but barely, it's hard to accept.
I was so engulfed on the trio's journey that it's complicated for me to have him share his life with someone I felt pretty insignificant to the story in spite of re-appearing throughout the series.

message 177: by Ajms98 (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ajms98 Yeah but this is kinda your fault to be honest. Everyone who had hope for Harry and Hermione being together were delusional, sorry, but not only because Ron and Hermione were always the obvious pair that was meant to be at the end, but because, even if Harry loves Hermione so much, he, in his thoughts, show us that he gets annoyed by her a lot and NEVER felt anything that could hints us that he liked her in a romantic way at all.

Nabilah Safira Ajms98 wrote: "Yeah but this is kinda your fault to be honest. Everyone who had hope for Harry and Hermione being together were delusional, sorry, but not only because Ron and Hermione were always the obvious pai..."

Hey, by any chance was this your reply to my comment?
I'm not sure why I have to be wronged for this little pickiness I have with the series. It's not my fault nor Rowling or even you who disagree with my opinion, it's simply things that I have difference with, and since this is a subjective thing, no person would ever be at fault... technically.

"but because, even if Harry loves Hermione so much, he, in his thoughts, show us that he gets annoyed by her a lot and NEVER felt anything that could hints us that he liked her in a romantic way at all."

Wow, I'm surprised for you here. You seem like the kind of person who likes it black and white. I'm curious on how you can be so confident of this. Does that mean, your parents never fought at all, because they love each other?
I agree that Harry was never written to have any romantic interest to Hermione. Which is why, I see her as a 'potential' and not a 'definite' suitor. Because I can see their potential from their similarities on dealing with things, and from the way they always got each other's back. They're very in sync and I love to see that in two people. But, doesn't mean these people will go down together. And I get that. I respect Rowling's decision. But I still don't like Ginny and that probably would never change.

message 179: by Nidhi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nidhi Poojari Bellatrix could be the worst of all because it was her very nature to be cruel. And above all she wanted to prove Voldemort her true loyalty for which she could go to any extent.

Also Umbridge because she was a dumb , power hungry woman.

Ajms98 Nabilah wrote: "Ajms98 wrote: "Yeah but this is kinda your fault to be honest. Everyone who had hope for Harry and Hermione being together were delusional, sorry, but not only because Ron and Hermione were always ..."

It's not that I like it black or white, it's that there are things that escape our taste, I'm talking about facts. My parents or any other couple fighting doesn't mean that Harry was annoyed but in a romantic way with Hermione, as you say it later, he never felt anything for her. If he, even for a second, have had some doubts about her, then I would not act like its a black or white situation, but it really is.

Also, about disliking a character, you are right, you don't have to feel required to like a character, but to the point of hating her more than Lucius or Dolores or other huge number of hateful characters basically cuz she wasn't Hermione...

You also said that she never add to the story (Which is not true at all) and that you preferred Harry to marry someone unknown to the story, to later add that you were so close to the trio that giving him to someone that you barely knew felt hard to accept... I may be a black or white guy, but, with all due respect, you are a walking contradiction.

Anousha Bellatrix Lestrange, Rita Skeeter and Lavender Brown. Also, I saw the name of Draco Malfoy mentioned above and just wanted t say that i love him. He went through a lot which people tend to overlook.

Umbridge without doubt

Caroline Ohhhhh, there’s so many to choose from. Snape, Umbridge, and Lucius are definitely all up there for me, but I would have to say the Dursleys ( and if I can only pick one then I’ll go with Vernon ). It’s because the Dursley’s are painfully real- abusive relatives who are supposed to be nurturing and caring and turn out to be anything but. You don’t often hear about magic teachers abusing their power in the real world, but you do hear all too often of parents and guardians who are emotionally and physically abusive, although not often to the extent of the Dursley family. I know they play a pretty small part in the series, but every time I read their chapters my heart breaks for Harry and the loving family he never found with his biological relatives, and remind myself how lucky I am to have such loving and supportive parents.

message 186: by Ajms98 (last edited Oct 02, 2019 06:43PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ajms98 ^ I understand that Cho is not the worst character since she is not actually evil, but for me its worst cuz she is pathetic and I can tolerate evil but the other quality makes me cringe. She not only has to be dating someone in order to breath (This is not slut shaming, I dislike people who don't know how to stay alone when they need it and use others to just don't feel lonely) but she spend a whole year making Harry (And everyone) uncomfortable with her widow pose about Cedric only to turn her back on giving Cedric justice when she had the chance to do something about it. She decided to stood up for her friend, who helped Umbridge destroying the Dumbledore Army, which ultimately helps Voldemort, the reason her beloved Cedric died. Seriously, I can take Voldemort, Bellatrix or Umbridge cuz they make sense as evil characters, but I just can't with pointless, brainless characters who mess around the plot for stupid reasons and drag the story down. She is an actual disgrace to Ravenclaw and I'm bored of people saying she was a poor little girl. WTF were the other students? Adults!? She never thought out of her own self, plain and simple. Well, at least she showed us something new: A Ravenclaw can also be stupid. With all of that said, I don't hate her the most, but I can easily see how someone would. She is sure the most annoying to read through to me.

Lemnoodle Dolores Umbridge

I_love_Read 05 En sí está claro, DOLORES UMBRIDGE, obvio, pero el personaje debe estar muy bien construido para ser tan odiado :/
Así que lo cambio por Percy Weasly.
Cho me parece bastante hueca también.

message 189: by Mimi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mimi Like... Umbridge was supposed to be horrible, and she was, but let's talk about Percy first. He wouldn't have been so bad if he had actually apologised BEFORE his side lost, you know? Then there's Phlegm, who I think wasn't given enough attention or just was supposed to be shallow as well. And this is probably an unpopular opinion, but I started to dislike James Potter VERY strongly after the last few books, because of Snape, mainly. So that's that.

message 190: by Lauren (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lauren I've never understood why Snape, after being horrible for most of the series, even through the 7th book, suddenly setts absolved of everything simply because he loves someone.
