After much deliberation, we have come up with a list of changes for our group. We incorporated all your feedback and attempted to come to a middle groud when members had different viewpoints. The changes below will go into effect for the next voting cycle. We hope you like the changes! We worked hard to try and accommodate the opposing viewpoints with what is most practical to us to be able to implement.

Change in BOTM, Seasonal, & Annual Reads
We will be reducing the number of BOTM selected each month from 3 to 2. One BOTM will be selected by voting. The second book will be slected by the randomizer from the entire list of books up for nomination (not just those that receive votes).

We will continue to use alphabetical book lists to vote from but we will have all previous BOTM wait out one complete cycle before they are on the list again. We will be using only a list of books 600 pages or less for the BOTM. The others will go into the seasonal list. We choose those at the end of the year.

To receive full BOTM partipication points (2 for reading, 1 for discussion of the book) you must complete the book in the month assigned. If you finish the BOTM during the same calendar year you will receive 1 participation point.

Additional participation points will be awarded to everyone who completes all the BOTM by the end of the year (regardless if you completed the BOTM during the specified month or any time later in the year before December 31.)

Opportunity to moderate a BOTM discussion: We will be offering participation points for anyone who moderates a discussion. After voting, we will offer the opportunity to mederate a BOTM, Seasonal, and/or annual reads. First opportunity will be given to those who voted for the book. If multiple people volunteer, the randomizer will be used to select the person. If no one volunteers, an admin will moderate. They will not earn participation points.

There will be no points for other reads.

Voting:

Starting this month, we will be using secret voting. You may still discuss books you like and don't like and try to sway others to vote your way, but all voting will be conducted through Survery Monkey ballot. Link to voting will be posted on the voting thread.

All members get one free vote.

Participation points (see below) can be used to "buy" you another 4 votes for a total of 5 votes. We will track your points on a spreadsheet so you'll be able to see them before voting each month. You can spend all 5 votes (if you have enough points) on one book or you can spread them out and vote for up to 5 books. You can also choose to save your points and use only your free vote. It's up to you.

This month we will vote twice once for August then a week later for September books. We'd like to then move to voting 2 months ahead of schedule. This will give people more time to locate the books and will make it easier for everyone to complete the books during the assigned month.

Switch to Participation Point (PP) system

1. BOTM: 3 points for reading during the appropritae month (2 points for reading 1 point for participating in discussion. If the BOTM is completed after the month is over but before the end of the year, you will receive 1 point.
2. Seasonal reads: 10 points (9 for reading, 1 for discussion)
3. Annual reads:
4. Moderation of discussion: 5 points for BOTM or seasonal read, 10 points for annual read
5. Randomized read: 2 points
6. Challenges (to be determined by each specific challenge)
7. Completing all BOTM books during the calendar year: 30 points

Participation Points can be "cashed in" for the following.
1. voting, up to 4 additional votes may be cast each month by using participation points (for a total of 5 votes)
2. Randomized list changes. You may "buy" another spin at the randomizer to trade in one of the books on your randomized list.

The annual points challenge will continue as a document to the end of the year and not be continued next year but it is a good idea that you track your own points for the Spreadsheet bookkeeper as she will have a lot to keep track.

Challenges
We will be hosting more challenges and games in the group including bringing back popular games like Globettrot Challenge.

Hi all,

I will be tracking the PPs on a spreadsheet, for this year please can you continue to update your yearly points challenge as you have been doing as I am using this as the basis for PPs.

I will be tracking total points for the year, points earned each month and points that have been spent. At any point I will be able to tell you how many points you have available. I plan to publish a points update each month before voting so you can decide whether to spend or save PPs.

Any questions please feel free to contact me.

Hope you enjoy the changes

Hi, BW

Is there a way to see the spreadsheet? Or should I ask for the amount of my points here? Not sure how that works.

Ups, I might have misunderstood how they're received. I thought that reading in the Summer Challenge will grant some of the points. I guess, I need to read the rules :)

Yes, you get points for the summer challenge. Did you add them to your score here https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group... here?

Hi Charisma, I have been updating the points based on peoples points list so anything you have added to that list should be captured on the spreadsheet.
