Hello everyone! I thought that I would go ahead and start the discussion for August's BOTM! I decided to take a little different path this time and have us focus on Non-Fiction books. Personally I can really get stuck in my wonderful world of fiction. The types where the good guys win (usually) and I am transported to a world so different from my own that I can forget my everyday troubles and struggles for a while. However, when I do get out of that bubble and delve into a Non-Fiction book, I often find myself fascinated and delighted to have found such an interesting and also true story. So, please share your suggestions for anything Non-Fiction. Autobiography, biography, true crime, historical interests, any and all are welcome! I'm excited to see where this theme takes us!

Today I ran across the book The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women and I thought it looked like an interesting Non-Fiction read!

M.J. Schwer (mjschwer) Currently 30% through Blood and Thunder by Hampton Sides The Epic story of Kit Carson and the conquest of the American West. It's a great historical read!

Now that I've suggested we read a Non-Fiction book I am finding a lot of what look like great Non-Fiction books! Just ran across one that sounds very interesting. The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Evil which is about the 1971 experiment conducted on college students. It was an experiment on social psychology that was a '...study aimed to test the effects of prison life on behavior and wanted to tackle the effects of situational behavior rather than just those of disposition.' It was meant to be a 2 week experiment but was shut down after 6 days due to the 'shocking set of events that unfolded.' Sounds like it could be a very interesting read!
