I'm reading. It's just that it's a reread for me so I guess I'm just waiting for the people new to the books to comment.

I'm enjoying it even more this time around. Not gonna lie though there's a couple characters I want to strangle knowing what their actions lead to.

I feel the exact way reading this, I'm doing a re-read as well not a full one only got to about the 500 mark, but I have to stop for a few day and get back into some of the other books I'm supposed to finish this month. Like you said I feel like I really booked myself into a corner this month.

I've started also, but I'm a bit on the quiet side, because I've stuck myself with other BR, but I'm reading it...slowly...

The writing style is excellent! Also so far im finding less graphic than the show unless im wrong? I mean sure he describes things like the red blood on the snow etc but somehow language and nudity doesnt seem so upfront as in the show.

Good news guys I finished the first of my essays and tomorrow is gonna be my chill out day so I should be able to et though a good chunk of this book (I only read around 60 pages this week) so I should be back with an update and after next week I should be up and running again with books

Okay so I'm making some progress but after next week I'll be back in action with my book reading anyway on Chapter 26 (cheers for the chapter guide Anni really helps)

(view spoiler)[I honestly did not expect the book to have such a huge effect on me I was going in expecting to be neutral to all the characters but the characters ae growing on me even some of the shitty one except Joffrey of course he's gotta go but I am interested in this plot with Cersei and the Lannisters and where that's gonna go which worries me a bit.

Also 10 points for Danaeryes (I know) for kicking her brother arse cause that guy definitely sounded like a brat although I doubt this is the last we hear of him (hide spoiler)]

But yeah I don't know what to expect so much intrigue and plots going down its really difficulty to see what's gonna happen especially where the starks are now.

Hmm my edition doesnt have any chapter numbering, but I'm on pg 292. so far I can see why ppl think so highly of this series. and ive heard ppl say the book is even better.

so far I'm really liking the characters. lots of interesting ones. Bran, Tyrion, Ned Stark, Jon Snow to name a few for me. looking forward to the chapters by those characters.

the pacing is also really good. always something happening in each chapter. im just not sure i can handle all the twists and turns theoughout the book and the series ...

Same here Barry my book doesn't have it either but if you scroll up Anni put up a link which numbers all that chapters and matches them to the US UK editions so your slightly ahead of me since I'm on page 250

Im on nearly 200 pg now. Really loving this. Have no problem at all following the plot and characters and twists myself. There may be many of them but the writing is excellent. What the series great really was partly to Martins writing and his characters. I hope he does his own thing with "Winds of winter" and doesnt follow the series too closely. Perhaps thats why he is delaying it ...to make some distance for himself from the series last seasons.?
Also i've noticed Bran is way more of an interesting character in the book than in the series.

Hmm I'll have to keep that in mind when I watch it but I didn't expect to like the characters and I'm still scared when the wtf moments start

Awesome stuff! Im loving the characters too especially Tyrion.( who got dumbed down in the series due to the show going ahead of the books...pls GR R Martin dont fail us with Winds of Winter!

To those who also watch the tv series, how different is the 1st book?

Fortunately, I don’t watch the tv series, althipough my wife keeps teasing me that she’ll spoil the future of certain characters to me. So, I can read this book with an open mind regarding each character. Although, judging f rom the tv series, I expect a ton of twists and turns for each character. I’m just afraid the characters that I like are gonna get killed off one by one. Perhaps grisly too, judging by how people die in the book.

Anyway, I’m on pg. 396 almost exactly at the halfway point of the book. A few comments

1. Who are the two guys whom Arya overheard in the well arguing about murdering Ned Stark? One of them is Illryio, the one with the forked yelllow beard? (Too lazy to go back trying to find the descriptions). So does that mean it’s not one of the Lannister who killed Jon Arryn and now wants to kill Ned Stark? Or are there two different plots going on?

2. Why was Jon Arryn looking at the genealogy book of the Houses? Someone is not the “right heir”? Robert is not the rightful heir of House Baratheon?

3. Robert is such a poor king, no wonder the kingdom is messed up. How could he allow Prince Jouffrey to wear a House Lannister armor? Ned wouldn’t have allowed Cat to dress Robb in House Tully garments.
And to have 6 millions debt, half of it to Lannister ... that just spells trouble.
Moreover, if Robert had been a better king, we probably wouldn’t have all these political tensions (though, we weouldnt have the story too ha).

4. Reckless series of decisions by Cat, I think, will lead to Ned’s doom sooner or later. Taking Tyrion hostage isn’t a good policy. Neither was her decision to go to Kings Landing. How could Ned go back safely to Winterfell now?

3. Robert by nature is a warrior not a king he was at his best when winning the Throne then it all went downhill from there. He lost the girl, then married a viper, Joffery disgusts him because he knows what he is and takes very little interest in him or the realm. Not a great king but i do feel a little sorry for him.

Oh @Apergis...you are so damn innocent...it's hilarious. Just you wait. Evil Santa is just getting warmed up. If anything, the show is waaaayy tamer than the books. In the books Danaerys is not even 14. In the show they went and made her 18+ to comply with a bunch of laws abt minors etc...

Page 772/807 Chapter 70

The last 150+ pages have been real page-turners. I've been sleeping late past couple of days, because the book kept starting at me from my nightstand, enticing me to continue reading it. I even stole some reading time at work toda ... Will probably finish it tonight.

(view spoiler)[ I knew Ned Stark would end up dead, but I wish he had more fight in him. I expected far more crueler treatment from Jouffrey (ugh!) and/or Cercei.

Now that Ned is dead, I don't know the importance of keeping Sansa alive. I guess Jouffrey really likes her? Or at least, he still wants her for appearance only. He does say he wants her pregnant and she must bear him a smart kid. Boy, I dunno a 12 year old can be that evil. I'm starting to pity Sansa, after calling her an idiot for the past few days.

Poor Daenerys. So, how can she escape and re-take the throne without Khal Drogo's army?

And what's going to happen to Arya? Man, I gotta be patient to find out in the next book, I guess. February can't come too soon!!! (hide spoiler)]

Ok I'm on chapter 45 now since the semester is over I'm gonna get through as much as I can of this and holy hell a lot of shit has happened

(view spoiler)[I'm surprised we don't see much of danaeryes since she's kind of like the main face of the series, well that's what I thought and so far, I honestly don't know what's gonna happen with all this plotting since the Lannisters have something in mind but I don't know what.

Also the more I read the more I love Tyrion, he's probably one of my favourite characters in the book along with Arya although, that may change but I like his resourcefulness and how he's very cunning I guess years of abuse does that to a man. Also Sansa, really knows how to grind my gears, I like how she's the innocent/spoilt one having a fairy tale ideals of the world and I can't wait or hope for reality to smack her right in the face (hide spoiler)]

I'm not gonna lie Angela I was kinda putting this book off due to the reputation and I was under the impression I was not gonna like it but somehow I was proven wrong since I like all the characters despite the feeling some of them are gonna die soon

Those Lannister Bastards I knew shit was gonna hit the fan but still and I figured Littlefinger was gonna betray them since he lied about the dagger to Catelyn and lets face it doesn't seem the honourable type and its actually smart replace the king with there Joffrey still weirded out by Cersei "affair" and blame the starks and while I hate them I'm amazed how clever it is so good on you Lannisters haha

And yeah can Tyrion slap Sansa the same way he did Joffrey please hahaha

I know this happened a while ago but you know when Ned was talking to the blacksmiths apprentice am I right in saying that was Roberts bastard then or am I completely wrong (hide spoiler)]

And HOLY SHIT this was a lot better than I expected I'm out right now so I'll write my review when I get home but yeah this book was amazing and I was putting it off for some reason haha

Not as bad as I thought it would be but I have a sneaking suspicion that it gets worse from here
