The Sword and Laser discussion

Saw a preview screening Monday night of WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, and all I will say is 1) when it was over, I wanted to immediately watch it again (last time I felt that way was after Fury Road), and 2) Bad Ape.

Oh, and yes, I agree with the rest of the world except the Academy -- can we please give Andy Serkis a damn Oscar already???

I liked it, especially all the shout-outs to the original films.

On the downside, Caesar was especially robust in this one, to the point that he was practically a superhero. And the guards were noticeably slack at their job, on all sides. :p

But overall I enjoyed it. The CGI was spectacular. I often forgot I was looking at animated apes.

I did rewatch both Rise of and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes that night, coming away feeling that the first one is by far the best. I'd forgotten that they referenced the Icarus space voyage in Rise, meaning that we could potentially see a remake of the original PotA. That would be cool.
