and I want to start many Bill and Thomas' recommendations, especially Tony Hillerman and daughter and New Orleans's series, too.

You may know him from "Mystic River" and "Shutter Island" films.
He also recently wrote the screenplay (then book) to "The Drop", which is a flawless, complex and exciting crime-noir.

The fascinating thing about the Spenser series is that much of it echoes the real-life troubles-then-success of Parker and his wife Joan.

Of the three, I thought Randall was the weakest one. That may have been because it was only 8 books long and Parker never got the chance to develop her as fully as Spenser or Jesse Stone.

Totally agree. Bosch is not only the best written, but has the best nuggets of philosophy and insight. Connelly is a true Master.

Slaughter by name, slaughter by nature. Far too gratuitously bloody for me.
