Ilias Sellountos | 6 comments If a Mr. X has translated a book or book(s) and Mr. X is also the author of a book or books, and for professional reasons desire that they keep separate Goodreads pages (i.e. that the books they have translated appear only on one, and their original works appear only on another) is that allowed by Goodreads? Does it violate any site rules?

lethe | 16359 comments If Mr. X publishes his own books and his translations under the same name, they will appear on the same page. We only separate in case of pseudonyms.

This same topic came up a few months ago:

I suggested differentiating profiles by adding a middle initial to the translator one, but I haven't heard from rivka whether that would be allowed. She has the final say.

Only if they were published that way.

As everybody can enter his books and they will just type the translator as he's written in the book they would end up in your normal profile again as long as you are using the same name for authoring and translating.

Ilias Sellountos | 6 comments Thank you all for your responses! to lethe and rivka: I HAVE used my middle name initial as I identified myself in the copyright page of a book. Perhaps that is how I should do it.

To Lachgas: only one of my translated books appears on Goodreads. It's vastly different from my actual books (one of which is becoming available as we speak) and I am actually annoyed by the fact the publishers messed with my translation, making it more wooden.

But was it the one you translated?
