Felicia | 15003 comments Perfect! Sounds good. I'll give it until the 23rd? Or should I at least wait until Christmas is over to start the poll? But then everyone would only have 5 days to vote.

message 652: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Yeah, just go till the 23rd. Then we can give about a week to vote and hopefully people can get the book.

I’m coming back in as one of the main mods of this group as of Sunday night. I finally got a new job and everything is good. Meaning I have more time for the group😌 I’m excited to be back.

Also does anything need doing for January or is that sorted? I’ll go on my computer later on today and do a little tidying up too so if there’s anything that needs doing let me know and I’ll do it then:)

message 658: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I think January is pretty set. And we have a challenge lined up for February. If you have any ideas for March we'd love to hear them. :)

Okey good to know:)

message 660: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Question. When I make the poll for all the January suggestions I should definitely include all of the suggestions right? There aren't any rules that we can't have read any of the books or anything else right?

There are in another group I'm in. So just checking.

message 661: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Right. You can include everything. We don't have any specific rules limiting options right now. We may put some in place if it gets to being too many repeat reads, but for now just go with what we've got.

message 662: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Okay. Thanks. :D

message 664: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments I know we have the January month challenge sign up already up but what about the next quarterly challenge? I haven't seen anything for that yet.

Should we do that soon?

message 665: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Gosh, I wasn't even thinking about that one! Can't remember if we've come up with anything. Do you have any ideas?

message 666: by Felicia (last edited Dec 18, 2017 04:34PM) (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Oh gosh. I don't even know. Lol. Aren't the quarterly challenges supposed to be easier? I feel like the two I've participated in have been easy so far. The Series Challenge and the Seasons Challenge.

We could do a Release Date challenge where you can read any book that came out in January through March (any year) plus new releases could be a category. Maybe add something about black history month in the categories or historical even with Martin Luther King Day and black history month?

What if we did an ABCs challenge? Where you have to try to read books that begin with the ABCs or even added in there author's names? And it was like the bingo challenge where you had to read all letters at least twice before reading letters again?

Or a page count challenge where the more pages your book has the more points you get? Maybe with some type of categories to follow as well?

What if we did two big teams instead of a couple smaller teams? That has been a thought on my mind as well. It just seems like a lot of people sign up and then don't participate. Maybe it'd be easier to have two big teams?

message 667: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Oooh, I really like these! Yes, the Quarterly Challenges are usually easier. I think the Release Date Challenge would be a good one. Do you want to come up with rules and things for that or would you like for me to? We can always use your other ideas for later challenges as well.

Can't believe I forgot about the Quarterly Challenge!

Usually we don't do teams for Quarterly Challenges, but maybe for January's challenge I will make bigger teams. Two or three might be good, depending on how many people we have signed up. Particularly with how many new people we have joining that one, so we don't know as much of what to expect since we don't know them as well.

message 668: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Sorry, decided to go to the book store. :D

I can think of some rules and post what I come up with.

But definitely:

- new releases in the months of January - March 2018
- any book released in the months of January - March

Maybe:
- historic novel
- book set at New Years
- book with Valentines Day and/or St. Patty's Day holiday
- book with that starts with L O V E or L U C K or S P R I N G
- new to your author
- book over 500 pages
- last book in a series
- book with a red cover
- book with a green cover

That's what I got right now?

message 669: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Those are great! Did you get any good books?

message 670: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments I went to Barnes and Noble and got a signed copy of Language of Thorns. 😁

message 671: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Oooh, cool! Have you already read it?

message 672: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments I have not. I have wanted it forever now. And it's a signed copy that they had left over form their Black Friday sale. I had a 30% off coupon and my 10% member discount. Got the book for $13, hardcover. Score! :D

message 673: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Sweet! Hope you enjoy it!

message 674: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Thanks! :D I have so much scheduled to read right now that I probably won't get to it anytime soon. Lol.

I'm also at work right now. I'm gonna write down some stuff for the Release Date Chellenge. And hopefully we can get that up and running with a sign up page soon.

message 675: by Felicia (last edited Dec 19, 2017 12:53PM) (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments So I see that we normally have 30 categories for the quarterly challenges. But I've only thought of 19. And I'm not even sure that all of them are good ones.

1. read a book that will be released in Jan-March 2018
2. read a book released in the months January - March (any year)
3. read a book with an author whose name (first or last) starts with J, F, M
4. read a book that has a couple (2 people) on the cover
5. read a book with a red or pink cover
6. read a book with a green or white cover
7. read a book with a hot beverage on the cover
8. read a book with a bird on the cover
9. read a book with a heart on the cover or in the title
10. read a book with a clover on the cover or in the title
11. read a book that starts with LOVE, LUCK, or SPRING
12. read book set at New Years
13. read a book that features Valentines Day or Sy. Patty's Day
14. read a book set during winter or spring
15. read a book that features a love triangle
16. read a book featuring an African American
17. read a book that features a protest, civil rights issue, etc
18. read a book about a war
19. read a book categorized historic
20. read a book categorized horror/thriller/mystery
21. read a book categorized romance
22. read a book tagged 'sports'
23. read a new to you author
24. read the last book in a series
25. read a book over 500 pages
26. read a book with a genre out of your comfort zone
27. read a with a female MC
28. read a book about a hobby you have or want to start
29. read a book not originally published in your 1st language
30. read a book about a powerful figure or someone in politics

Any body got any more ideas for some more categories? I tried to think of some that would correspond with the months of the challenge and the holidays that are in those months. But I could only think of 19.

message 676: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 9905 comments There could be one like:

1. Read a book featuring an African American?
2. Read one where there is a protest, civil rights issue, etc?
3. Read a book about a war? (For Robert E. Lee's Birthday Jan 16.)

Apparently January is national hobby month so maybe

4. Read a book about a hobby you have or want to start?

It's also apparently hot tea month so maybe read a book with a hot beverage on the cover?

There is international mother tongue day in February. Maybe one where you read a book not originally published in English???

President's day is also in February. Maybe one where you read about a powerful figure or someone in politics?

message 677: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Oh! Those are good ones. I thought about the African American character one. But didn't know if anyone would take offense to it. I did the historical one for black history month.

But those are definitely all good ones to me!

message 678: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments I'll edit my post to include your ideas in the list of categories.

I wondered about it too but I think it's okay. :)

message 686: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments There is a Friday the 13th in January. I think adding read a mystery/thriller/horror book would be good.

That's 28! We only need 2 more! Lol.

message 687: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Okay, I got it. Two more.

National bird day is January 5th. So "read a book with a bird on the cover"

And the Superbowl is in February. So "read a book centered around sports"

Sound good?

Now the rules, that I can't think of. Would we just use the same rules as all the other challenges? And the same point systems?

Usually we use the same rules. You'd have to ask Alaina about the points though probably as she is the one who does them the most right now. :)

Me too! This is my first time doing it. So just wanna make sure I'm doing everything correct. :D

CP; wanna let me know if there is anything else I should do before we post it? Also, how was the movie!? I have been dying to see it! I need to get to the theater soon so I can see it in Imax! (:

And honestly...I wasn't that impressed with the movie, but I'm like that sometimes so I wouldn't let that bother you ;) There were parts that I enjoyed.

Okay, I'll post it for sign up. (:

I am a huge Star Wars fan. Not anything crazy like I must go to midnight premieres or have Star Wars posters all over my walls. But it is one series that I MUST go and see in Imax. Same with all Marvel or DC movies. I'm a huge movie nut. So I never let anyones review keep me from seeing a movie. Especially critics. Those guys could say a movie was horrible and I could've loved it. Ya know?

message 695: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I'm a huge Star Wars fan as well. But nothing compares to the original three for me. And yeah, critic reviews are usually ridiculous.
