Hey guys! Hope everyone's Christmases were amazing and full of books.. I can't wait to get my claws into mine.. anyway...

@Salha:- I hope your last semester goes okay and of course you're welcome back in March! Just let us know when you're ready!

Felicia | 15003 comments Hey guys! Sorry, just catching up on everyones comments from the past few days.

@CP, I read the February challenge. I think it sounds really good! And some of the categories match up with categories from the quarterly challenge. So it'll be easier for everyone to get points in both challenges! I seen you asked if we want to allow them to be repeated. If we didn't allow them to be repeated, would everyone have to complete every category before being able to repeat them?

message 804: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Not sure how we would want to do it if they don't repeat. Matbe we should just let them be repeated? It makes keeping score a lot easier, haha.

message 805: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Is there anyway I can participate on a less demanding basis?

message 806: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments The thing with a group like this is that there need to be a few mods who are on regularly to keep up with everything. Those who can't be as regular on goodreads could still help out if they see anything (like book of the month threads and buddy reads) that needs doing.

Agreed. I think it'd be much more difficult in keeping track with what everyone read if they can't repeat categories.

I am on every weekday while at work. I keep a GR tab open my entire shift. Lol. Evenings and weekends I'm not on as much. Maybe once or twice a night during the week and on weekends.

So I can be responsible for anything you guys may need.

message 809: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Thanks, Felicia! The scores, buddy read threads, and answering questions are the main things that build up a lot.

@Jackie I don’t see any harm in you taking a step back. And time you want to you could always see if there’s something that needs doing and then if and when you decide to come back on a more permanent basis just let us know:)

Elizabeth Emily Browne (snakesandladderrs) | 684 comments Mod
I agree just let them do the categories as and when as long as the book matches at least one of the categories it’s fine.

I’m in as and when I can. I get on as much as I can on my days off and when I’m not at work. Unfortunately I’m a waitress and not allowed my phone on me during work and I work long shifts ranging from 8- 12/13 hours a day. But I work around it:)

message 813: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I wish I could be on all the time.:(

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I can definitely be on during my winter break and weekends

I am good with making buddy threads. The point system is still a mystery to me. Lol. I can help out with that if someone tells me how to figure out scores.

I’m on all the time 🤩 either by phone of computer.

I’ll have to let one of the others do that as I don’t really understand it myself.

message 819: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Alaina does a really good job with keeping up with scores. Lol. She stays on top of that! (:

I’m on my phone right now and I can explain it once my work laptop lets me sign in 🙄🙄🙄 I’ve been here for more than 2 hours and haven’t been able to do work

message 822: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments @Alaina, Okay, sounds good. Thanks. :D

I wish the GR app was more user friendly. It actually kinda sucks. I use it more for the notification bubble I get on the app and then log into GR on safari on my phone. Because the app just isn't good. Lol.

Yeah is kind of annoying. Plus the whole autocorrect happens without me noticing so sometimes the comments I make from my phone never really make sense and I never notice until I’m on my computer 🙈

message 824: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I'm on at random times. Mostly mornings or evenings while I'm working. With writing and work I try to not be on all the time.

Depending on the challenge, scores usually are calculated something like this:

points + buddy read points + pages/200 = total points

Felicia | 15003 comments Alaina wrote: "Yeah is kind of annoying. Plus the whole autocorrect happens without me noticing so sometimes the comments I make from my phone never really make sense and I never notice until I’m on my computer 🙈"

Exactly! Lol. Autocorrect is the worst on the app. It makes us book nerds, who clearly know what we're talking about when it comes to books, look like we have no idea what we're talking about. Haha.

Do we give a different amount of points for buddy reads depending on the number of pages read during that buddy read? I seen that in the other challenge group. Or are we set at a certain number no matter the page number?

message 827: by Alaina (new)

Alaina (ameserole) | 81936 comments Mod
I think it was usually under 400 pages they get 1 point for the BR and over 400 pages they get 2 points for the BR

message 828: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments @Alaina, I'm gonna update the points for Charley Girl on the Seasons Challenge. Can you tell me if I do it right?

message 829: by Alaina (new)

Alaina (ameserole) | 81936 comments Mod
I don’t see a new score update on the thread. But it could be because I’m on my phone 🤷🏻‍♀️ but for charleygirl it would 36 | 5 | 13,799 | 110.00 - so if you had that then it would be correct.

message 830: by Felicia (last edited Dec 27, 2017 10:08AM) (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Should be there now.

I put 109.99. But because on the calculator it was actually 109.995 would i just round that up to 110. and anything under 5 in the 3rd place after the decimal would round down?

Also, why is my comment so much bigger than yours?! Lmao.

*EDIT* Actually I think I know why, your comment is in a different font than mine.

message 831: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Yes, because it ended in 95, you round up. If it had ended in 96, you were also round up, but if it had ended in 94 or below you would round down. You always round to the nearest tenths place. So something ending in 69 wood around to 70, something ending in 52 with around 50, and so on. Does that help?

message 832: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Jackie wrote: "Yes, because it ended in 95, you round up. If it had ended in 96, you were also round up, but if it had ended in 94 or below you would round down. You always round to the nearest tenths place. So s..."

Yes, perfect. And we always divide the pages read by 200? That 200 never changes?

message 833: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments No, that never changes. This is because there are five points for every 1000 pages. And challenges that allow manga, you divide the page number of the manga by four. So, a manga book worth 200 pages would be divided by four equaling 50.

message 834: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments For different challenges we count buddy points differently, so sometimes it's just one and sometimes it's two for longer books. Yes, dividing the pages by 200 doesn't change because mathematically that is how the proportion would break up since we give five points for every 1000 pages.

message 835: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Gotcha. I understand now. Thanks. I can help out with that portion as well now. (:

I think we were talking about it on page 16

message 840: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Yeah, I think so. It was a Luck of the Irish thing, which could have a lot of good stuff associated with it.

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Love your idea for March!!

message 842: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Ahh, I found it! Haha. (:

I think it is a good idea. You can associate leprechauns, gold, rainbows, Ireland, alcohol, a book set in a bar/pub.

There are so many ideas for March and St. Patty's Day. Lol.

sorry I did answer what you should do to the score template in the season review - on my phone it looked normal but then again it was my phone. In case you see it here first: type <.pre> before the top line (where names is) and type <./pre> after the last line (Jackie's). Just don't type the "." and it should look like the rest.

message 847: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Okay. Great! Thanks for letting me know. It just came up so big on my computer screen. I was confused. Lol.
