Alright, not sure if I ever shared the superhero categories with everyone, so here they are.

I had in the rules originally that categories could be repeated once per team until they were all used. (Then you could start over.) But do we want to just allow repeat categories as we've discussed with the other challenges?

Yes I came up with categories for the fairytale, I'm still not sure on how I would for it to work ... but I'll share soon

Yes, Alaina. We need the quarterly challenges. The series challenge is easy, if we just want to run it as reading books in series and getting points for pages/number in series.

And then the summer/vacation we need some categories for.

And anniversary...I was thinking (as we discussed yesterday), that maybe it should be mostly just about pages and then we can add in a few categories for bonus points that encourage everyone to broaden their reading/participate more in buddy reads and things.

If you want, you could add:

someone wearing red (like a jacket, sweater, or any item of clothing) for Red Riding Hood.
hair on cover for Rapunzel
maybe like a shoe on the cover? for Cinderella unless you meant glass as shoe?

I like the seven idea for Snow White - like the page number could end on the number 7 (like 327 pages) or 7 being in the title.

You could do like castle/house on cover for them as well (except for Rapunzel).

This looks great! I'll look it over more later and see if I have any suggestions to add, but so far it looks really good. :)

I love the categories for all of the challenges! I agree with Alaina‘s suggestions.

I think the tower/castle works better for Rapunzel. But if you want you could use castle on cover for Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, and Sleeping beauty. Then house on a cover for Red Riding, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel.

I guess you could do house for Sleeping Beauty instead of castle - just depends on what you think.

I'm also coming up with categories for summer vacation quarterly challenge - I think I have 20ish right now.

I keep changing what I think can work for the summer vacation quarterly challenge. So maybe next weekend I can post what I have and we can narrow it down/fix it.

Agree that tower works better for repunzel.

I want to put up the January BOTM thread but we have a tie for first place. What do we do in that situation?

For Wonder Woman we could maybe add a category that involves strong female characters?

is still okay to comment on for a buddy read?

It is a whole series thread that started on December 1st. Do we have her find a new buddy and we'll restart the date or can she start commenting on that thread? It looks like she had a buddy at one point but that person didn't comment on the thread at all. She was the only one who did.

I would say she can go ahead and use it, since she had a buddy originally. But it might be a good idea to also post and try to find a buddy to make the actual discussion more fun. :) I might join in if she/they get to book six!

Is there an easier way to see if there is an old thread for a book that we need to make a buddy thread for?

I just searched in the discussion search bar the title and had to go through 5 pages of comments about that specific book to see if there was a thread already made. Which there was.

I think there’s two bubbles when you type it in the discussion search. You want the first bubble. That should help.

Yeah, like Alaina said, once you search there is a "topics only" option just under the search bar that will narrow it down.

One of the members in the group asked me if she could use one book for multiple categories. I said no, obviously. But it made me think, what if we tried a challenge where you could use one book with multiple categories, if it fit? Or do you think that'd be too hard to do and for us to keep track of?

Just got me thinking when she asked me.

I think we've done one where it could be applied to two or three before. I'm open to it, just wonder how we would handle points. Any thoughts?

Maybe for each extra category a book can fit in they get an extra point?

Yeah, one point each? Maybe a limit of 3 categories per book? And would we mods want to verify all categories that are listed actually fit?

Or we can do where the categories can be extremely varied. And then if they find a book with one match they get one point. 2 matches 3 points. 3 matches to categories 5 points? So that it would be a bit tougher to get multiple points but then it would motivate members to find books where they can fit multiple categories?
