RainySun (sunnyrain) | 875 comments That sounds good!

and if the categories aren't hard then maybe +1 if it fits 3 categories and +2 if it fits 5.. so it's also not as easy to get extra points

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I like these ideas! Maybe we should try to work them into one of the next challenges.

message 953: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Yeah, I think it's a good idea. And then it could possibly lead to members getting out of their comfort zones to accomodate the challenges.

message 954: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Exactly. I like encouraging people to try new things.

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I like all of the ideas. I know I said that I was going to be more active but I woke up feeling extremely sick yesterday and went to the hospital today to find out that I have the flu.

Ouch! The flu sucks! Last time I had the flu I was bed bound for 8 days. I missed 5 days of work. -.- I hope you feel better! (:

I also have a question as a member not a mod. Lol. I read a novella with 43 pages. Am I allowed to use that in any challenge? Is there a page minimum?

message 957: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I think you might be able to use it for the resolutions challenge if that is one of your resolutions.
Hope I’m not stuck in bed for that long.

message 958: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Do we have a page count minimum listed in the rules? I can't remember. If it's in a series and that's one of your resolutions, then I would say any length. I honestly like when we do the rule that shorter can count for pages only and longer than 100 counts for a point and toward pages, that way novellas can be included.

Hope you feel better, Jackie!

Had a bit of an emergency with some of my horses tonight, but hopefully the bulk of the stress is passed.

message 959: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Thank you.
Oh no, hope it all works out!!

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Thanks!

message 961: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments No page count minimum.

message 962: by Felicia (last edited Jan 03, 2018 06:45AM) (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments So when adding points does that mean it'll count as one point for reading a book? Or should I just add the pages?

message 963: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments Novellas under 100 pages only count for pages.

message 964: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments And I buddy read it. What about that?

for which challenge? I don't think we did a point for how many pages it would be - so since it was a BR I say one point? or half a point since it was a novella?

message 966: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments For both the challenges right now. Whatever is decided is fine with me. I was mostly wondering. 😁

message 967: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments I don’t think you can use a novella for the release date challenge. As for the buddy reading, I don’t remember what we do.

message 968: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Let's go with half a point for the buddy reading.

message 969: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments I have a question. I was the first person to read a book for the Release Date Chellenge where I used one of the bolded categories that gets 2 points. Where do I add that extra point? To the books read section? That is where I currently added it. But if that's wrong I will edited the post.

message 970: by Anna 'Bookbuyer' (last edited Jan 04, 2018 02:10PM) (new)

Anna 'Bookbuyer' (bookbuyer) | 9905 comments One of the members of Team Keep Up the Good Work (Rae) has a book with no official page numbers. We have checked Goodreads, Amazon and the author's website. It is a kindle edition so I tried to find some way of using page location numbers to find a page count I found this website. Can we use this?

http://www.edukindle.com/2008/08/page...

(The important part: I got closest to a useful formula when I took the first actual numbered page of the book (not including the introduction)–that is, a page with “1” on it, and looked up the corresponding “position” on my Kindle. As it turns out, Page 1 appears at position “95” on the Kindle. Then, I went to the last full page of the text, page 239 (not the notes, index, or other “last” page) and checked the position: 4035. So, I had 3940 positions spread over 236 pages (the first page of text was actually page 3). 3940 divided by 236 yields 16.69 positions per page.

Using this formula I could pretty much find the page in book if I knew the position. In all my test cases, I landed within one page of the text I was searching for if I divided the position number by 16.69.)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Felicia, that is fine to use that column for the extra point.

Yes, Bookbuyer, you can use that.

KK. I'll ask Rae for the page locations now. Hopefully I do it right. :)

Thanks CP. One more question. Since The Cruel Prince is the BOTM can members do a buddy read of it to get that point. Plus participate in the BOTM thread to get those two points? So that's 3 points for reading one book.

I don't think that's allowed. The BOTM is already kind of a buddy read, so making a separate thread for it is not okay.

message 975: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments The intention is that it should already be 3 points, if it fits a category. It would get a category point and then the two points for participating, so no extra buddy read would be needed.

message 976: by Felicia (last edited Jan 05, 2018 07:38AM) (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Ahhhh. I thought that the BOTM didn't have to fit a category that you just read it and got the two points.

So since The Cruel Prince fits category 6 with a white cover that person would get 3 points then. 2 for the BOTM read and then fitting it into a category? But would those three points go into the books read section of the points?

Or one for the book read category and then 2 in the buddy read for the BOTM?

message 977: by Salha (new)

Salha (salhavam) | 557 comments The BOTM can and cannot fit a category, that's up to the challenge on course. Our current challenge is a Resolution Challenge, so whether or not the BOTM fits a category depends on the resolutions of each participant.

I think the proper way to calculate the points is that the Category point goes in the "Books Read", and the BOTM points go in the "Buddy Reads". But I'm not so sure

message 978: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Right, if it doesn't fit a category you get two points. If it does you get three (not sure I've ever explained that well). And yes, one point for the category and two for the buddy would probably be the best breakdown.

Felicia | 15003 comments Question again. Sorry to keep buggin' y'all. Lol.

Sibil from team Keep Up The Good Work has DNFed a book after reading some amount of pages. She is wondering if she can still use the book for pages towards the teams points?

Would she be able to? And if so, would she still have to put up a review saying she DNFed the book so she had a review link in her post? And also, it'd obviously have to fit a category right?

message 981: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackiegirl02) | 4614 comments From what I remember, we usually don't allow DNF's, but that's just what I thought. I don't think it's fair to those who do finish their books.

message 982: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Okay, I will let her know. Thanks.

message 983: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I think for this challenge, DNFs won't be allowed, since we didn't work it into the rules. For the future, I think we could count pages (as long as the book would have fit a category), but not toward points. Kind of the same thing with stories less than 100 pages that we talked about before.

I know what a pain it is to read and end up DNFing a book and not have what pages and time I did invest not count.

message 984: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Yeah, I DNFed Three Dark Crowns after like 150 pages and didn't use it because I didn't think it'd count. So I get it too.

message 985: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Very frustrating. So I think working that into future rules would be good. And still needing a review that maybe explains why you DNFed the book.

message 986: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.

message 987: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I set a suggestion thread for February's book of the month.

This weekend I can post the February challenge. Or I can add someone on the google doc so you can access it. How many of you have google docs? I think I'm connected with most of you who have it.

message 988: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments I do not have it unfortunately.

message 989: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Not a problem. I just use it to keep track of challenges so I can access them more easily and have them already formatted. I will plan to post the challenge this weekend.

message 990: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments I honestly don't even remember what we said we were going to do for February. Lol.

I would maybe be up for getting Google Docs but then I'd have to learn how to navigate it. And I'm still learning Goodreads. Lol.

The topic was Love & Hate, the categories are already somewhere within this thread haha

message 992: by Salha (new)

Salha (salhavam) | 557 comments @CP can you share with me the new doc that has the next months' topics and categories? I only have the one for the January Challenge in my Google Docs.

message 993: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Yes, I will share all the upcoming ones that I have.

And Felicia, google docs isn't too difficult. It's basically like MS Word, if you use that, but online.

message 994: by Felicia (new)

Felicia | 15003 comments I am up for trying it if it'll help me keep track of challenges.

How do you send me one so I can at least take a look and see if it's something I want to do?

message 995: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Do you have any google accounts? If so, you already have docs. Do I have your email address? I'll see if I can invite you to it. I think you should be able to view it without an account if you're invited.

message 996: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I don't seem to have your email. Message it to me and I can invite you.

I just signed in - I like it. Especially the tidbit about DNF'd books. I'm excited for the challenge. Are we setting up the sign up this weekend?

message 999: by Salha (new)

Salha (salhavam) | 557 comments I really love the categories as well! I'm already planning the books I could be reading for them :)

message 1000: by C.P. (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Yes. I can set the signup this weekend unless one of you who is on more regularly would like to do so.
