Thank You Cherie. Yes I do plan to read the whole series. As soon as I complete this challenge I'm going to pick the second book, Hearne is an amazing writer!

message 5: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Yes, I love the Iron Druids too. I hope it doesn't reflect badly that I misspelled the author's name. :-)

The Martian by Andy Weir

42. Would you rather explore in space or undersea? – Read a book in that setting. Space Just the thought of being under water with sharks and whales and giant squids terrifies me. I'd rather chose space.

message 8: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59959 comments I loved The Martian. What did you think of it?

Francis Casabuena | 46 comments Janice wrote: "I loved The Martian. What did you think of it?"

It's genius, well researched book. There was this chemistry, never ending math, and mechanical stuff that was way over my head (I thank Google and the movie for guide), but the storyline was so great. Rated it four stars. Would love to read your thoughts too?

message 10: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59959 comments I also rated it 4 stars. I thought there was a good blend of humour and tension. There was a lot of technical information, but I thought it was presented in such a way as to not detract from the story. I listened to the audiobook and I thought it really showcased the book.

50. What language would you like to learn to speak? – Read a book that was translated from that language to one you do speak. Or, chose a book where a character speaks that language. Spanish

This was suppose to be my book for question 26, but I got confused if a pickup truck falls under the category of a car. Anyway, I have no idea that majority of the characters in this book are Mexicans, and Mexican speaks Spanish. So 50 it is.

message 12: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm glad I'm looking in your thread Francis! I have that book on my wishlist and still need a book for question 50 :)

I hope you enjoyed it!

message 13: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I believe a pickup truck would be considered an automobile, but not car. A car is a two or four door sedan. A car has a trunk - or boot, depending on where you come from. (No truck bed for hauling things). Good thing we didn't have to choose between a VAN or SUV for an answer. That would be harder to find on the cover of a book! :)

message 14: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Pretty sure we discussed pickups at the beginning of the challenge and they fell in to the truck category rather than car. Can't remember what question that was now.

And, welcome to the challenge Francis.

message 15: by Francis (new)

Francis Casabuena | 46 comments Yeah actually after I finished reading the book I went to that thread for an answer and got an idea that pickup's isn't a car. I was thinking of a six wheeler truck the moment I answer the question. Cultural differences maybe? But I appreciate you guys for clarifications!

The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman by Neil Gaiman

2. What is your favourite sport? – Read a book that is either about your favourite sport or one of the characters plays that sport. You could also chose a book where the cover shows that sport. Swimming

I don't really have a sport, but swimming is the closest. Family lives near the sea. Tried proper swimming lessons, backed out the following day. All blame to a 10 feet deep pool for my 12 year old self, didn't drown just got terrified, the reason until now depth and I doesn't like each other.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments You are doing great, Francis!

My sister has always been afraid of water for the very same reason. She was a bit younger, but she was told to jump into the deep water at the end of the pool. It was her first day of swimming lessons and her last. She never went back, nor learned to swim either.

Wonder by R.J. Palacio by R.J. Palacio

37. Who is your favourite author? – Read either a book by that author, or a book recommended by that author. Stephen Chbosky

He's an author and a movie director as well, I love his Perks of being a Wallflower and its movie adaptation even more! Unfortunately, he only wrote one book and his author's page isn't even verified. So a quick visit to wikipedia, and found out he's the one who directed the movie adaptation of the book Wonder.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Did Wonder make you cry? I did.
I have not read The Perks of Being a Wallflower yet.

Yes it did Cherie, 10 pages on it and I'm already in tears.
You should, then watch the movie right after, it's even better.

7. Pick a number between 1 and 10. – Select a series and read the book that corresponds to that number. Or, read a book with the number in the title. 1

The Bone Sparrow by Zana Fraillon by Zana Fraillon

41. Issue you are passionate about (abortion, euthanasia, animal rights… etc) – Read a book where this issue is prominent or is represented in some way. It may be fiction or non-fiction. Humanitarian/Human Rights

Humanitarian - having concern for or helping to improve the welfare and happiness of people; pertaining to the saving of human lives or to the alleviation of suffering: a humanitarian crisis.

Specifically this book is about the life of a Rohingya refugees on a detention center in Australia, but in general it was about the suffering of refugees in detention centers and refugee camps. After reading this I googled about Rohingyas, even though this book was written a year ago, the suffering of these people being persecuted by their government is still happening at this very moment.
