Check out Radish- a new way to publish. Amy Tan of the Joy Luck Club is one of the principles. You can download the app for free on any device.
You can publish for free as well, or have the first three chapters free and readers pay for each additional chapters. You release them slowly like a tease.
It was a perfect place for me to test my chops as an adult author of fiction. Check out Bulwark by Brit Lunden.
RL Jackson, Amy Hamilton, and Alex Carver have all been asked to publish there. Check out their books and the site. There is an application on their portal for anyone who is interested.
They offer editing and covers. I've read some of their books and they've got some interesting authors on there. https://www.radishfiction.com/

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments I'm glad you started a Radish thread. I enjoyed the first chapter of Bulwark btw. Looking forward to reading the rest.

Radish is my kind of thing. I do things in short bursts including reading so this is ideal.

I have two books I threw under sci-fi. Modified is available for free and Nate and Day is available for freemium where you pay for chapter 4 onwards if you don't want to wait a week for it to be unlocked for free. It's set for one chapter released each week. They like each chapter to be around 2000 words. So you can write a few chapters of something and get it out there while you write the rest.

The first three chapters of anything are always free regardless of which option the author has chosen. The third option is premium where everything after the first free chapters is locked until coins are paid.

Apart from the fact I haven't earned any coins yet I can't find anything wrong with Radish.

I've made 15 coins!!! Yay!!! They come to about 12 cents per coin, so it's not enough to retire yet- I had the story started and finished it while I was putting it up- That was fun. I wish I could hear from the readers to see what they like and what they didn't.

I have Modified on my book shelf, as well as RL's book. I need to know who else of our group is on there so I can show support to them too!!

I love their model.. They've taken a full page ad in our magazine, so I can't help but feel we've impressed them in some way. It took them a nano-second to take your work and that's encouraging on it's own.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments Well done! I can't write fast enough to supply anything... One day...

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments I've got three coins. I'm really pleased with that. I didn't think I'd get any.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments But I'm with KDP and am not allowed to publish anywhere else.

I've got something in my head that I'd like to do for Radish but I'm nowhere near having the time to do it. Frustrating. I have a wip (third book in a trilogy on Amazon) to finish (six months at least away probably), then another one that would not suit Radish - you wait til you see it, then you'll understand. It won't go away and has to be written.

Thanks for the thought though, Alex. Trust me, I would if I could. Time just doesn't stretch...

Exciting

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Tad confused. I'm on holiday so not checking everything everyday. Having published my two books on Radish, a couple of days ago I received a rejection email from them. I'm hoping that's a mistake.

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Thanks. It's stopped raining for a while.

I'm hoping it's a mistake. But to be honest I wouldn't be surprised to be kicked out of something. My experience of 45 years is one of mass double standards, disappointment and head cracking against brick walls. Nothing I have ever wanted to do for myself has ever just dropped into my lap.

I wouldn't worry about it. They are re doing the site and system revamp so it's probably just an error.

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Hope so.

If your books are still up- it's probably just an error.

message 13: by Amy (new)

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Probably. Still, if they do take them down at least one won't be up for free.

Amy Hamilton | 2560 comments Let's see if I can make myself understood, there's a chance none of this is going to make sense and I've read everything I can find. Can someone explain Freemium to me.

The first 3 chapters of any Radish book are free regardless of Free, Freemium or Premium. I know that bit.

Do you have to release the first three chapters all at once as they are free or can they be released one at a time at weekly intervals?

On Freemium if someone jumps in when the book is halfway released do they automatically get what is already released for free or do they have to wait a week for each chapter in the same way as someone who started reading the same week the book was first released?

Does that make sense?
